Just recently, the Philadelphia Eagles made their way to the White House to meet President Donald Trump as Super Bowl champs. And now, Washington’s getting another visit from the NFL. This time, it was Commissioner Roger Goodell who showed up on Monday to announce a major event coming to the city in 2027. But before he could even get to that, something unexpected happened right there in the Oval Office; he was hit with some surprising news.

According to NFL Rumors on X, “The Trump administration’s 2026 budget request to Congress would eliminate millions of dollars in funding for traumatic brain injury education and research, per ESPN. It would cut out over $8.25 million for brain injury research and public education about the risks of concussions and long-term brain damage. It could destroy decades of progress.” That’s a tough call.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was in Washington to talk about the 2027 NFL Draft. But this latest Trump administration budget proposal would cut $8.25 million in federal funding for traumatic brain injury research. That’s definitely huge, especially in a league where one in five players suffers a concussion every season.

And as mentioned above, it didn’t stop there. Proposed cuts to the NIH could wipe out major neuroscience programs altogether. But the NFL? They stayed silent. Well, many argue that there’s no surprise in there. After all, the league’s been arguably walking on eggshells with this administration, careful not to stir the waters.

As per Mike Florio, speaking out now – especially on something they claim to care about – would risk that careful balance. So instead, they play along. Smile for the cameras. Say the right things. Even, according to Florio, if it means standing in the same room with a man who once called Roger Goodell a “dope.” But why? Well, the analyst also answered this. Because playing nice gets you things. Like a draft in D.C., maybe even a new stadium, as today’s new reports suggest.

Roger Goodell crown Washington as the host of 2027?

The Washington Commanders are finally getting their moment. It’s because the NFL Draft is heading to the nation’s capital in 2027, and it’s going big. We’re talking about the National Mall, with the Capitol building in the backdrop. Interesting, isn’t it? President Donald Trump broke the news from the Oval Office, standing next to Roger Goodell, Commanders’ owner Josh Harris, and D.C.’s Mayor.

It’s the first time that D.C. has had the opportunity to host the draft since 1940. Hence, Roger Goodell said that he expects over a million fans to attend the draft days. And if this happens, that would crush Detroit’s two-year-old record (750,000). So, naturally, the franchise’s owner, Josh Harris, is happy, as he said, “We believe we’ll have well over a million people when we come here. The draft has become one of the great entertainment sports events. We can have a tremendous impact on this community, and it will not just be an event, it will show the world how far the nation’s capital has come and where it’s going.” Definitely a piece of good news.

No doubt, the Commanders are finally rising again. They have got a new leadership, a rookie QB lighting it up, a playoff win, and now, a draft hosting opportunity. In addition, the Commanders are welcoming a brand-new stadium coming to the old RFK site. Yes! It’s all lining up. The team’s rebuilding and the city’s rebuilding. And in 2027, the whole world’s gonna see it, as Roger Goodell’s NFL is already making waves!
