The Browns‘ star rookie, Shedeur Sanders, never misses a moment to enjoy life—and more importantly, to make it go viral. Whether he’s lighting up the field or lighting up social media, Shedeur always knows how to stay in the spotlight. This time, however, it wasn’t about football, but rather a hilarious and unexpected moment that had everyone laughing—everyone except Shedeur, perhaps, as it ended with him taking a personal loss he won’t soon forget.

After signing his first NFL contract, the Browns’ future starting quarterback was soaking in the moment—literally and figuratively—as he stepped into the locker room for the first time. While capturing the experience on camera, his multimedia producer, Zach Miller, accidentally took a misstep and tumbled straight into the hot tub. At first, it seemed like just a hilarious mishap—until Shedeur realized that Miller was holding his phone when he went under.

Following the unexpected personal loss, Shedeur took to social media to share an important message with his family, friends, and fans. In a lighthearted yet informative update posted to his Instagram Stories, he wrote, “Forgot to mention. Zach Miller had my phone when he fell into the tub. So, I can’t access any text to that number from now.” While the situation was clearly unfortunate, Shedeur handled it with his usual sense of humor and calm, turning even a tech mishap into a moment worth sharing.

This funny but kinda concerning incident went down on Monday. It’s the same day that was supposed to be all about celebrating a fresh start. Just hours earlier, Sanders had officially signed his very first NFL contract with the Cleveland Browns, which should’ve been one of the biggest moments of his life. But instead of soaking up the spotlight, he ended up sharing it with this weird twist, turning what should’ve been a smooth victory lap into a mix of cheers and confused looks. Remind you of anything?

Bittersweet day in Shedeur Sanders’ life

As we know, Shedeur lost his access to loved ones (rather temporarily) due to the above incident. But it’s the same day when the Browns QB signed his first NFL contract. Shedeur Sanders and the Cleveland Browns agreed to terms on a four-year, $4.6 million deal. Meanwhile, the former Colorado Buffaloes star also received an endorsement from NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, per Sports Illustrated

At the same time, it’s kind of sad what NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero reported about Sanders. Pelissero reported that Sanders’ deal includes a $447,380 signing bonus. The deal is nearly $42 million less than what Sanders would have made at No. 2 overall. Comparing this amount to his former close mate at the Buff, Travis Hunter, the wide receiver/CB who signed a $46,649,104 contract. That’s a pretty big financial loss

But at the end of the day, Shedeur’s probably not losing too much sleep over it. As he has already said, he will be focusing on the game, and given the huge chip that the franchises have placed on his shoulder, he will need to. 49ers QB Brock Purdy can be a great example of how to go about turning a raw rookie deal (or a draft slide) into a mega contract. Purdy, the last pick of the draft, Mr. Irrelevant, had signed a $3,737,008 rookie deal. But now, three years later, he signed a massive five-year, $265,000,000 contract.

So, it may be somewhat a bittersweet day in Shedeur’s life, but he’ll be laser-focused on what matters most—proving his big league QB1 credentials on the gridiron.
