Rookie safety Shilo Sanders is still searching for an NFL regiment, even after a workout with the San Francisco 49ers last month. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers pulled the plug on the Colorado product after the preseason last month. The Colorado fans still remember Shilo’s signature celebration. Bent knees, swinging hips like a 90’s dance out of his dad Deion Sanders’ “Must Be the Money” music video.

Now, Shilo remembers his dad once again, but this time asking for a favor.

Coach Prime just signed a five-year, $54 million deal to lead the Colorado Buffaloes. But Deion’s health has once again had the fans holding their breath. He is undergoing an aspiration thrombectomy for the left popliteal and tibial arteries, a procedure to clear blood clots from his left leg. He already lost two toes and much of his calf on the same leg.

Shilo, while checking up on his dad, playfully asked, “If you give me $5 million just to have, I will make sure that you don’t have to get surgery anymore. I might keep about 2 (million dollars), but if you give me 5, I’ll make sure you’re alive.”

His cheeky yet “broke” comments have earlier made headlines too. In a recent video, Shilo kept it real while a fan asked him for a donation to a youth program. “Bro, I just got cut from the NFL,” Sanders said. “I don’t got no money, bro. You got to go ask like Shedeur (Sanders). [My NIL money] is gone, bro. Y’all got to ask Shedeur. But look, if I get back in the league, I got you.”

Still, Shilo seems to be taking it all in stride. About a month after being cut, he dropped a video on his YouTube channel, sounding grounded and optimistic, reminding everyone that he’s more than just a football player. “I’ve always done that my whole life playing football with music, acting, modeling — I’m well-versed, and my parents made sure of that,” he said.

Shilo Sanders struggles after being waived by the Bucs

Shilo’s preseason struggles went from bad to worse. After the Buccaneers released him post the preseason finale, no NFL team has signed him, leaving his future uncertain. Sanders had only signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent back in April. Many believe that his case might be the follow-up action of his “Bills stunt” when he punched tight end Zach Davidson. Bucs HC Todd Bowles also weighed in and called the act “inexcusable”.

The league clearly seemed to agree, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter later revealed that Sanders was fined $4,669 for the incident. And just a day later, Sanders was waived by the Bucs.

It’s been a tough stretch for Shilo Sanders, and Bucs fans definitely noticed. After being released by Tampa Bay, many believed the rookie safety would stick and join the practice squad once the 53-man roster was set. But as Tampa Bay finalized its roster and 16-player practice squad, Sanders’ name wasn’t on the list. Instead, the Bucs brought in another rookie safety, signaling that they have moved on.

“Bucs are signing rookie safety Jack Henderson, just cut by the Panthers, to their practice squad,” reported Fox Sports’ Greg Auman on X. “Finished his college career at Minnesota. Six sacks, nine TFLs last season. Three years at Southeastern Louisiana (six INTs) before that. The Henderson signing means the Bucs are not bringing back rookie safety Shilo Sanders, who was among their cuts to get down to 53.”

Well, even if Shilo has not signed any franchise, he might travel north. Fans might just see Shilo take his talent to the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, they still hold his and his brother Shedeur’s negotiation rights. But for now, his lighthearted and spirited “broke” comments continue to gain attention.
