Long gone are the days when you didn’t need to retrieve a call sheet for every NFL game. With the league signing a boisterous media rights deal in 2021 that included multiple streaming partners, it’s the audiences who’ve had to bear the whole brunt…On one hand, the total duration of NFL broadcasts—for the regular season—increased from 295 hours in 2019 to 347 in 2024. This essentially means you’d be watching 19.3 hours of football every week this season, compared to 17.4 hours in 2019. And if that wasn’t enough, the constant changing of channels to keep up with the games, and you are bound to be frustrated. And so was Patrick Mahomes‘ mom Randi Mahomes, who didn’t mince her words…
But before we get to that, here’s a little recap for you: On October 7, the Kansas City Chiefs met the New Orleans Saints at Arrowhead Stadium. With a blistering win (26-13) that took the Chiefs’ season record to a spotless 5-0, it was wide receiver JuJu Smith who appeared as the star of the show—he finished with seven receptions for 130 yards. Mahomes, on the other hand, had 28 of 39 for 331 yards and one interception. The Saints dropped to an unfortunate 2-3 record (a 47-10 and 44-19 win against the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys respectively, and a 12-15, 24-26 and a 13-26 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons and the Chiefs respectively). What added fuel to the fire was an injury sustained by QB Derek Carr exiting the game with an oblique injury in the fourth quarter.
While the game was as electrifying as it could get, fans were far from impressed—a protesting campaign led by Randi. As she failed to turn up in person, perhaps owing to her dad’s health struggles, she thought she could enjoy a quiet night of football. Wrong…It seems most of her time was consumed in finding the channel. “Is it just me or why is it so difficult to watch a game on tv at home???,” she wrote on X out of frustration.

Some fans initially misunderstood Randi’s tweet, with one replying, “Naw girl it’s not just you. You have so many distractions at home that it makes it harder to watch”. But soon, Mahomes’ mother clarified with a clearer tweet: “I can’t even find it on tv”.
Several other also sympathized with her situation as one user complained: “They put the games on a different channel or service every week. It’s very difficult to watch games compared to how we grew up. You need Prime and ESPN and peacock and, and, and…” To another tweet, Randi even mentioned, “I can’t find it on my tv again so I’m sadly not watching it”.

Notably, the Chiefs’ game will stream on eight different channels this season. While their first and third week clash was broadcasted on NBC and Peacock, Week 2 and Week 4 streamed on CBS and Paramount+. The Week 5 game was available on ESPN. Their Week 7 game against the San Francisco 49ers on October 20 will be watchable on FOX, followed by CBS and Paramount+ for their Week 8 clash (October 27) against the Las Vegas Raiders.
However, this was not the first time Randi Mahomes disclosed her displeasure with NFL broadcasting. Previously, the NFL’s no 1 QB’s mom made headlines for her unhappiness with ESPN announcers.

Patrick Mahomes’ mom’s frustration at NFL broadcasting
You might have been aware of Mama Randi’s frustration. 4 years back, in 2020, when ESPN commentators addressed Patrick Mahomes as ‘Pat,’ she expressed her discontent at NFL announcers on Twitter. “If this announcer doesn’t stop calling my son Pat.. ugh, I may scream…” she Tweeted.
However, once her message went viral on the internet, the announcer apparently apologized. Following the event, the Chiefs quarterback stepped forth to defend his beloved mother. He explained her dissatisfaction and gave the right cause for it. “Hell yeah, my mom said I’m Patrick and my dad’s Pat. So hopefully, we can start calling Patrick to keep her happy,” he remarked.

Mahomes’ mom previously raised concerns about the safety equipment, expressing her frustration while watching her son play on TV. Yep! Her dissatisfaction was heightened last season, in 2023, during the Chiefs vs. Dolphins playoff game, when Mahomes’ helmet shattered and chipped following a head-on collision. “This helmet issue and the replays.. makes watching from home absolutely not my favorite,” she Tweeted on the incident.
Although she has some concerns, her passion for her son’s NFL career is quite undeniable. Randi has been a consistent backer of Mahomes! With her constant support, Patrick Mahomes is also aiming for a third consecutive victory with the Chiefs. His performance throughout Week 5 even astounded the fans, as the Chiefs remain unbeaten this regular season.
