Quarterback Aaron Rodgers arrived in Pittsburgh Steelers‘ with quiet confidence, but six weeks in, the offense still feels familiar. While the Steelers sit at 4-1, questions remain about whether Rodgers has truly elevated the team.

On October 13, The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen wrote that A-Rod hasn’t picked up the AFC North franchise fully 100%. “I don’t think this win tells me too much about Rodgers or the Steelers,” Nguyen wrote while describing the veteran’s effect on the team. Yet, the analyst also admitted that A-Rod has been more successful than the QBs the Steelers have had in recent times.

“Rodgers gives them more competency than they’ve had under center in a long time.” he added. To see if the 41-year-old has really improved the Steelers’ quarterback play, let’s look at their numbers from the past three seasons.

This year, Aaron Rodgers can score more passing touchdowns than last 3 years. But overall, their rushing game and interceptions are in the same range. Also, they have a 4-1 record after 6 weeks. So, the game has been almost identical to what head coach Mike Tomlin has been playing at the Steelers.

However, the Black and Gold Nation will soon know if their team has got tougher since Aaron Rodgers’ arrival. Nguyen added, “We should be able to tell a lot more about what kind of team the Steelers are when they play the Packers in two weeks, but credit to them for taking care of business.” He’s 100% right!

The other 3 teams in the AFC North are struggling, with 4 or more losses. But against the Packers in Week 8, A-Rod will get tested by his former team.

Mike Tomlin needs more weapons for Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a wide receiver before the November 4 trade deadline. Two players are getting attention – Chris Olave from the New Orleans Saints and Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers are “looking for a receiver,” which has fueled talk that one of these two players could be a target.

Olave has had a strong start this year. In six games, he has 39 receptions for 342 yards and one touchdown with quarterback Spencer Rattler. He is fast, gets open easily, and can make big plays, which would help the Steelers a lot.

Meyers has also been solid. This season, he has 29 catches for 329 yards but no scores. He runs routes well and catches the ball reliably, which would fit nicely in Pittsburgh’s offense.

Either Olave or Meyers would give the Steelers a big boost in the passing game. With Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball, both receivers could quickly become important players for the team. The Steelers also need a solid WR2 to support DK Metcalf and make their passing game stronger.

Through five games this season, Metcalf has 19 catches for 356 yards and 4 touchdowns, averaging 71.2 yards per game. The rest of the receiving group hasn’t produced much. Calvin Austin III has 10 catches for 139 yards and 2 TDs. Jonnu Smith has 17 catches for 89 yards and 1 score. Others have also contributed, but no one outside Metcalf has been consistent.

This shows why adding a reliable WR2 is so important. Chris Olave or Jakobi Meyers could fill that role. Either receiver would give the Steelers a real second option, take some pressure off Metcalf, and make their passing game much stronger with Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball.

Without a strong WR2, defenses can focus on Metcalf, making it harder for Pittsburgh to move the ball. Adding Olave or Meyers would fix that problem immediately.
