But the day before this much-awaited clash, the Acrisure Stadium was witness to a horrific incident involving an NBC worker. Before the Steelers, the Pitt Panthers were in action at the Acrisure Stadium against the North Carolina State Wolfpack. After this NCAAF clash, the accident happened around 10 p.m. ET, according to KDKA.

Hours after the Pat Narduzzi-coached Panthers registered a dominant 53-34 against the Wolf Pack, a worker had a severe fall while preparing the main scoreboard. Soon, medics, fire, and police responded to the stadium as he suffered severe injuries, primarily to his lower extremities. The Pittsburgh Public Safety also revealed that the man had fallen about 50 feet from the main scoreboard to a mid-level catwalk area.

He was working as a vendor on behalf of NBC Sports and was getting the scoreboard ready for Sunday Night Football. Moments after his horrific accident, the rescue medics and firefighters lowered him in a rescue basket near a waiting ambulance. The man was transported to the Allegheny General Hospital, where he remained in critical condition.
Since the incident, the Pittsburgh Steelers have released a statement about the incident. “An incident occurred last night at Acrisure Stadium as crews were preparing for the Sunday Night Football game. A crew member installing production equipment suffered a fall. The individual was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, and we are awaiting confirmation of the worker’s condition,” the statement read.

Other Pittsburgh-based sports teams have had similar incidents this year as well. Almost six months ago, a man fell 21 feet from the bleachers onto the warning track at PNC Park during a Pirates game. Identified as Kavan Markwood fell from the Clemente Wall during the seventh as the Pirates hosted the Chicago Cubs. Markwood suffered a broken neck, clavicle, and back after his accident.

This accident also brings back horrific memories of an unfortunate death that occurred at the Acrisure Stadium. Three years back, a man lost his life after falling from an escalator after a Pittsburgh Steelers game. After the visiting New York Jets took a 24-20 win, Pittsburgh police and EMS inside the stadium rushed to the incident near Gate C.

The individual involved in the accident suffered a 40-foot fall and was rushed to the hospital. The man suffered multiple blunt force injuries to the head, trunk, and extremities because of falling, and he remained in critical condition.
Later identified as Dalton Keane, a 27-year-old who worked as a pipefitter at an industrial piping company in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. The frequency of such incidents at Pittsburgh sports venues raises important questions about safety protocols and protective measures.
