At the NFL Combine held in Indianapolis, Sean Payton said that the team is working on coming up with a firm decision regarding the quarterback problem. On the topic of Russell Wilson, the head coach said that the decision will be out “within the next two weeks.” He further hinted at what he expects of the future quarterback for Denver. “Six-foot-two might be a starting point for the prototype of a QB.” This further signaled that Payton had made up his mind to let go of Wilson.

Payton further talked about how important accuracy is for a quarterback position and how he aims not to overlook the factor. “At some point, teams are going to make you win from the pocket,” Payton said, “We shouldn’t miss on accuracy because we get to see it,”

Payton accidentally slips up about “next” QB

While talking about the Broncos’ quarterback position, Payton stressed the importance of the decision, calling it “vital.” Moreover, the head coach referenced a meme he saw online that piqued his interest. Talking about how the joke was about Denver not being able to retain a QB, Payton accidentally mentioned, “-our next one,” hinting at Wilson’s exit.

“I saw this humorous meme the other day, and there’s a Bronco fan with a shirt on, and there was like eight quarterbacks’ names with a cross through it. Our job is to make sure that this next one doesn’t have a line through it.”
