With only a few hours remaining for the coveted Super Bowl LVIII, Las Vegas air is buzzing with excitement. A football carnival that promises breathtaking action, the  Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers will witness skies filled with American F-16 jets just like the 2022 Pro Bowl.

The 2022 Pro Bowl was also played inside the Allegiant Stadium, and the U.S. Air Force’s special unit ‘The Thunderbird‘ performed a stellar show over the iconic stadium. This time, it’s going to be even bigger, better, and more immersive.

US Airforce to perform a flyover at Super Bowl LVIII

On the one hand, Joe Biden joined the celebrations for the Super Bowl LVIII, and on the other, U.S. Air Force aircrafts will be roaming over the Allegiant Stadium and the chosen one is Thunderbird. “The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will perform the flyover at tonight’s Super Bowl. Allegiant Stadium has a roof, but its semi-translucence allows natural light to shine in and will provide fans with a viewing experience similar to the 2022 Pro Bowl,” Joe Pompilano wrote on X.

While the Allegiant Stadium has a roof, it’s still translucent enough to view the Thunderbirds celebrate the Chiefs vs 49ers showdown in Vegas skies. The Thunderbirds usually consist of F-16 jets for the flyovers and the same are expected to be roaming over the Allegiant Stadium today. The flyover will start seconds prior to the singing of the national anthem and will end with it as well. Thunderbirds, which have been carrying out flyovers for over 70 years now, have been rigorously preparing for the Super Bowl LVIII.

The Thunderbird team has a total of 135 members which include 8 pilots, 4 support staff, and 3 civilians serving in the Air Force. This special wing of the Air Force carries out 75 shows each year, and in its 69-year history, over 4,000 shows have been lit up by the squadron. However, despite all the experience, Thunderbirds know Super Bowl LVIII is a special occasion, and have been prepping accordingly.

The squadron has been training twice each day, six times a week for the historic occasion of the Super Bowl. And with only hours left, it won’t be long before Vegas sees the F-16 making different designs over the sky. Additionally, fans inside the stadium can scan a QR code, which will be announced in the stadium only, for an immersive experience from the stadium’s roof.
