The Steelers would be looking to get back in the winning column this week as they welcome the Cowboys in Pittsburgh. Having recorded a strong start to the season, the Steelers still haven’t found their starter QB Russell Wilson back into the lineup. In his absence, Justin Fields has been sensational as he led the Steelers to three straight wins this season. The only loss they suffered was against the Colts, which broke their winning streak coming into week 5.

Wilson, who was supposed to lead the team out this season, found himself sidelined due to a calf injury from the opening week. Even building up to the Cowboys clash, Wilson remained limited in training. This threw shade on whether he would ever manage to reclaim the starting spot as former Cowboys QB Terry Bradshaw shot down Wilson’s chances of returning by stating, “That’s not gonna change. That’s his forever.”

Well, can you blame Bradshaw for downplaying the chances of 9-time Pro Bowler ever returning to his starting berth? Seeing Fields start in black and gold this season doesn’t feel like Wilson would be starting anytime soon. Over the four games this season, the 25-year-old has racked up a pass completion rate of 70.6%. Having threw his passes for 830 yards while adding three TDs and just a single interception. Fields have settled quite well in the absence of Russ.

Even in the loss against the Colts last week, Justin completed 22-of-34 passes for 312 yards. Although the Steelers couldn’t come back, having trailed the game by 17 points early into the first half, Fields’ 55-yard TD pass to WR Calvin Austin III was the pick of the bunch. But head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t leaning towards confirming the 25-year-old as the starter just yet, “It potentially could, but it has not to this point. The guiding factor for us at this point is the amount of b— that we have in front of us, how early we are in the process. That’s probably been one of the significant variables in terms of our approach to his rehabilitation.”

As Tomlin keeps the door open for Russell Wilson to reclaim his starting spot in Pittsburgh. Russ continues to ignore Fields in his social media posts after losing his position this season.

Russell Wilson ignores Justin Fields as he celebrates the Steelers’ dominating start to the campaign

When the Steelers recorded their third victory on the bounce against the Chargers a few weeks back. Wilson took to his Instagram, tagging teammates Dan Moore Jr, Spencer Anderson, Zach Frazier, and James Daniels. Although he missed out on several players while mentioning them on his Instagram story, celebrating the teams’ victory.

One person’s name was missing from the lot, which caught the attention of many. Well, we are talking about his rival Fields, who has seemingly carried the Steelers to a strong start amid Wilson’s absence. Him starting for the Pittsburgh saw the Steelers concede just 26 points after three games into the season. Even six turnovers are among the lowest in the league, which shows the dominance the Steelers have enjoyed with Fields leading them out.

Therefore, it isn’t surprising that Russ could be salty about Fields’ success, which was supposed to be his. But for now, Wilson doesn’t seem to have an easy way back into the starting role that was his at the beginning. Will he manage to dethrone the 25-year-old? Or will his time in Pittsburgh end the same as his Broncos tenure? Guess we will find out over the next few weeks this season.
