Is there a problem with Bill Belichick not being able to find a home after parting ways with the New England Patriots? Does nobody except the Atlanta Falcons have a desire to have one of the best football coaches? Despite having an extensive resume, Belichick is going through what Tom Brady went through after parting ways with the Patriots dynasty and becoming a free agent.

The Pat McAfee Show discussed Bill Belichick’s career trajectory with the special guest— Adam Schefter. From their discussion, it looks like there’s more to what meets the eye, especially when hiring people like Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. Hiring them would mean that the teams have to sacrifice a lot, something that a lot of organizations might not be ready to do.

It all started with speculation as to what would happen if Belichick were to join Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. In this prospective story, the host Pat McAfee and his guest Schefter talked about how the fans would be fuming over the idea of Belichick ever joining the Bills. Just like some fans were upset at Tom Brady joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the same thing can happen to Bill Belichick. But getting slandered is not the problem here. When Brady left, not a lot of teams wanted to hire him.

That is because if they hired Tom Brady, the margin of error for handling such a personality would have to be negligible. Per McAfee and Schefter, hiring Brady meant that everything had to be perfect, from the staff to the camera crew, to the facilities, to the coaches, and everything in between. McAfee and Schefter discussed how Belichick’s hiring comes with a lot of hurdles too that many teams might not be ready to take on.

At some point, Adam Schefter intervened and said that the Atlanta Falcons have shown interest in the Super Bowl-winning coach, but they have their options laid out for them. I felt like there were more teams that should have been interested in Brady and there should be more teams that are interested in Bill. And right now there aren’t just like they weren’t with Tom and it’s like that’s crazy to me,” added Schefter to the conversation.

Why the teams might not hire Bill Belichick?

The NFL is focused on hiring young coaches and the act has been trending for some time. The other teams with the possibility of a new coach might also be interested in young coaches like Antonio Pierce. Secondly, it might have to do with Belichick’s age. The 71-year-old might not be willing to conform to each and everything he’s been told. And we know that Belichick likes to keep things his way.

The perspective of discussion for McAgee and the NFL insider even then shifted to how at one point no team wanted to hire Lamar Jackson, as if nobody was interested in him. Now he is on his way to a potential Super Bowl win and everybody is punching the air right now. It’s the same with Belichick, if and when he gets the result, a lot of people will be upset at their decision to not do anything about hiring coach Belichick, per Pat McAfee.

One take at a time

Basketball has stuck with me ever since I was a kid. I remember watching Kobe Bryant sometime in 2008 and being blown away. Like every kid my age, I was utterly taken aback by his moves and abilities as an athlete.
