One reporter asked if NRG Stadium’s green carpet was ‘a little tricky’ for the Orange Crush. Surtain laid it out straight, saying, I could say the turf was pretty deep, my cleat got caught up in the turf and it sort of made my leg hyperextended…

The NFL bigwigs argue that artificial turfs are there for a reason. And that real grass also has the same probability of lower body injuries. Jeff Miller, NFL’s EVP, stated they’re laser-focused on reducing injuries, irrespective of the turfs. But the power play on the field type is in the hands of the NFL owners. However, according to reports, the grass turf gives good traction, resulting in lesser injuries.

While not new, the debate over nature vs. tech turf is back in the spotlight. With recent injuries cranking up the heat. 15 stadiums, home to 17 teams, flaunt the artificial greenery, while another 15 stick to the classic turf. The NFL Players Association, on the other hand, has been pushing for a full-on switch to natural grass surfaces.
