Despite all the roster building and the first overall pick, the Titans haven’t been able to meet expectations. From questionable decisions to a lack of support from the rushing attack and ongoing defensive issues, the team fell to 0-3 after the loss to the Colts. Are they repeating history from last season’s 3-14 record? But with each defeat making his seat hotter, coach Brian Callahan has remained composed while addressing issues with the wide receivers.

Speaking of Wide Receiver Calvin Ridley, he said, “I’m not going to stop relying on Calvin. He’s got to help us. He’s got to find a way to get his confidence back up.” He further added, “We’re going to keep throwing the ball to him. He’s going to keep being put in position to make plays. It’s the same thing when a guy doesn’t perform his best, they’ve got to find a way to pull themselves out of it, and we’ve got to find a way to help him.”

The wide receiver had managed just one catch on seven targets, which isn’t the best from the player whom Callahan calls “the big part of” their offense. While coach Callahan acknowledged the frustration, but made it clear that Ridley remains central to the team’s plans. The message was both a warning as well as a demand for Ridley to bounce back quickly if they hope to win.

Across the last three games, Ridley has managed just eight receptions for 111 yards. This is far from the production that made him the Titans’ only receiver to record a 1,000-yard, last season. So, the coach isn’t giving up on the player. He has faith in the player. For that end, he believes the team must be patient. “You’ve got to keep coming to him. You’ve got to keep throwing the ball. The hard part is these things don’t show up sometimes in practice. All of a sudden in a game it’s a problem. You’ve got to keep working. It’s like a hitter in a slump,” Callahan noted. There are issues with the offense.

So, Ridley must improve quickly and provide support to the quarterback Cam Ward. The QB showed potential in the game, completing 23-of-38 passes for 219 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. However, he didn’t have any help from the rushing attack. Amid a struggling defense, early calls for the coach’s dismissal began circulating.

Titans’ HC feels the heat on his seat

Coach Callahan’s decision-making was criticized. As the team lined up for what appeared to be a 57-yard field-goal attempt, coach Callahan found himself in a tricky spot, unsure whether to go for it on fourth down or kick. After a timeout to buy some time, he ultimately decided to send out the kicking unit. But the unit wasn’t set, drawing a 5-yard delay-of-game penalty and pushing the attempt all the way back to 62 yards.

Clearly, the Tennessee fans didn’t hold back their frustration. Each misstep seemed to fuel the crowd’s displeasure, and many were chanting for the coach to be fired. The frustration was palpable, and the Titans’ sideline felt it just as much as the stands.

When asked about whether he might give up the responsibility of calling plays for the team, the coach said, “Everything is under evaluation right now at 0-3, certainly it’s all part of it,” Callahan said. “That’s players in their roles, that’s everything. We’ve got to find a way to put ourselves in position to win games. We’re evaluating everything.
