Tony Romo’s future as a broadcaster has been hotly debated by many. After weeks of silence, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback admitted to having issues with alcohol and managing them to come back stronger. His latest appearance might prove that he is doing better.

In the video shared by News On 6, Romo was seen wearing a grey polo, black pants, and a white cap while lining up a golf putt on the green before taking his shot. After everything he has been dealing with, this is a major development.

Romo, an amateur golfer, is looking forward to chasing his goal of playing in the PGA Tour. This outing was his attempt to qualify for the prestigious tour, competing with 74 others for a PGA Tour card or Korn Ferry Tour card, per Golf Oklahoma. Romo opened with a 4-over 76 in pre-qualifying, per Monday Q info on X.

This marks a major moment for Romo, who was arrested in July on suspicion of operating while under the influence, according to an arrest-detention report from the sheriff’s office at the time. He was driving south on I-43 when police stopped him on the high-rise bridge.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Romo did poorly on field sobriety tests and refused a breathalyzer test. He was arrested around 6:15 p.m., booked into jail at about 9:45 p.m., and released around 11 p.m.

It was later reported that Romo’s blood-alcohol content at the time was 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit.

Following the OWI arrest, Romo, a veteran on CBS, was placed on an indefinite leave by the network. In his absence, CBS promoted J.J. Watt to replace him in the No. 1 crew.

Romo has since shared a lengthy statement, admitting to his mistake. He pleaded no contest to the charges, which include three additional citations. He was also required to complete an alcohol assessment program and pay a $784 fine.

However, Tony Romo’s future with CBS Sports is still up in the air. He wrote in his statement that he is “turning his attention” to his health, family, and, “in time, my return to CBS,” which indicates that he does not want to see this door closed. But as of now, CBS is continuing without him.

Even CBS president David Berson mentioned that there is no fixed timeline for his return.

“We had to consider the impact on our image and on our brand. That’s very important to us,” Berson said in August. “Whether the games, marketing, PR, social, the focus should and needs to be on our presentation and not on any other factors.”

J.J. Watt has worked with Jim Nantz for the first three weeks, and now the two will team up again in Week 4. This gives Watt another chance to stay in the spotlight while Romo remains away from the booth.

Romo also got the chance to call some of the NFL’s biggest games. During his time with CBS, he worked on three Super Bowls. He also earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Sports Personality in his very first year as a broadcaster.

Plus, he also has time remaining with the team. Romo signed a 10-year, $180 million contract with CBS in 2020, which works out to roughly $18 million per year and runs through 2030. However, whether CBS is inclined to keep him on is a major doubt.

Watt and Nantz will call the Chiefs vs. Raiders game at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS. That means Romo will miss Week 4 as well. With no clear return date from CBS, this latest schedule only makes it harder to know when Romo could be back.
