Per news from Mike Garafolo, the Seattle team retained Tyler Lockett and has restructured his deal. The team has retained the WR for two more years, giving him a $30 million deal, which can max out to $34 million according to Mike. The good news is that Lockett is getting a guaranteed sum of $13 million this year. He spent 9 seasons with the Seahawks before this re-signing.

Per Spotrac, Lockett will earn a base salary of $15,300,000, while carrying a cap hit of $26,895,000 and a dead cap value of $19,790,000 in 2024. Despite participating in all the games of the 2023 season, the WR had 894 yards and 5 touchdowns for the whole season. Before his last season, he had 4 consecutive seasons worth of 1,000 yards.

However, the Seahawks reached this point after letting a couple of people go and restructuring some other deals in the roster to free up some cap space. Lockett’s new contract also became possible due to the same reason.

The Seahawks doing their best to manage the cap
Per sources and common knowledge, the Seattle team restructured Geno Smith’s contract as well. Also, they let go of their safeties Jamal Adams, Quandre Diggs, the TE Will Dissly, and DT Bryan Mone. These efforts have saved $42 million in cap space for the Seattle Seahawks. Now that they’ve got those things out of the way, the team might be able to focus on some other things.

The team has other players that it hasn’t released from the roster yet. These players include the defensive tackle Leonard Williams, linebacker Jordyn Brooks, tight ends Noah Fant and Colby Parkinson, guard Damien Lewis and center Evan Brown. Maybe the Seahawks will have better fund management if they take care of the remaining players and plan their future accordingly.
