Looking back, one of the NFL’s speediest receivers wasn’t wrong after all. All that Tyreek Hill needed as a way of assurance to endorse Travis Hunter for the NFL’s top draft pick was the Buffs’ season-opening win. Hunter had logged seven catches for 132 yards while tying a school record with three receiving TDs. And exactly 20 minutes in after Hunter’s unreal third TD grab that came off the shoulder of an NDSU CB, Hill was dialed in: “Whoever got that first pick, idc if you need a Lineman or QB, Travis Hunter is one of one.” Hunter indeed was one of one: The 2025 NFL Draft’s second overall pick while picking a Heisman Trophy on the way there.

A lot of time has passed since Hill last spoke of Hunter. But here we are with the Cheetah giving his wrist a break and using his words instead. A single crisp statement about Travis Hunter he’s now made is gathering all the side glances. So, what gives?

Tyreek Hill was having a blast in a limo with friends when one of them asked Hill a question, “Yo Tyreek! What do you think about Travis Hunter?” His response? Sunglasses, a little smile, and a short head turn with a sassy “He gonna be a**.” Coming from a veteran WR like Tyreek Hill, even this small jibe at Travis Hunter feels like a premium shade. But another clip followed shortly after, and it’s confirmed news that the bromance from last August is still very much on! Here’s what Hill said,

“Travis gonna be a doll, bro.” Long story short: No harm done, just a few laughs, and an inside joke for all those who saw his Twitch stream.

But it’s not just Hill; even Hunter himself did something recently that, for a Jaguars first-rounder, is a bit… embarrassing.

Travis Hunter’s epic Jaguars fail

Travis Hunter is a killer cornerback and an even better wide receiver. But not everyone can be absolute perfection. That’s the truth the Jaguars fans saw when Hunter was faced with his first off-the-field assignment. So, what was it? The assignment was for the rookie to sit with some painting tools and draw a Jaguar. Straight off the bat, with a big smile, Hunter made the bold claim, “About to make the best Jaguar you’ve ever seen.” But right after that, he asked if he could use his “context clues.” After 10 seconds of staring hard at his Jaguars cap, he went to work.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Tyreek Hill's playful jab at Travis Hunter a sign of respect or just friendly banter?

“I’m just gonna draw a kitty.” While he was drawing, the interviewer noted his brushwork was very precise and asked how he’d “compare art to football.” His answer as he worked on the drawing was, “Got to be patient.” But the Jaguar was testing his patience. So what’s the solution he came up with? Glue and yellow glitter. Classic. He also admitted, “This is super hard.” Well, drawing and football don’t really mix. So that’s okay. Even the interviewer admitted, though, “It looks a little bit like Pac-Man.” Travis stared at his masterpiece for a second and agreed with another smile and a nod, “Yeah.”

But while Travis Hunter failed at drawing, his energy throughout the process was absolutely infectious. We even saw a glimpse of it when he danced onto the stage when his name was first called in the draft. And with that energy, he’s continuing to be a standout. At least on the field. He’s been going all in with the offense at the minicamps. But Jags HC Liam Coen will have him working the other side of the ball when the veterans soon. Coen believes in what he can do, “he knows what’s cut out for him, coming up.” Hunter’s just got to buckle up and go the “extra mile.”
