The Chicago Bears have emerged as the focal point of NFL discussions lately, largely due to the actions of their GM, Ryan Poles. Last year’s missteps deprived them of the opportunity to enhance their roster. While the addition of DJ Moore provided some benefits, the team struggled in the 2023 season. However, this year presents a different scenario with the No. 1 overall draft pick in their possession.

The Bears have been operating with a whole new philosophy ever since Poles came into play. Colin Cowherd spoke about it in a recent episode of his podcast. The gist of the conversation revolves around how Ryan Poles is the right person for the job, who is focusing on creating a better offense and trying to keep up with the competition. All at a time when defense-oriented teams like the Chiefs and the Steelers are also shifting their focus on the offense.

The host immediately drew a comparison between the Steelers and the Bears. According to Cowherd, apart from Terry Bradshaw and a few others, the Steelers historically didn’t prioritize their offense, maintaining a “defensive culture” by default. Learning from these past mistakes, the Bears’ GM decided to shift focus to the offense, which may have influenced last year’s DJ Moore trade.

Fortunately enough, the Bears acquired WR Keenan Allen and RB D’Andre Swift recently to fill their offensive gap. These efforts might be to build around a QB that they might soon hire, as they traded Justin Fields to the Steelers. Last year’s decision to acquire Moore was being taken with a grain of salt, but people are starting to see Ryan Poles’ vision now.

Cowherd shifted the focus on Caleb Williams, who is deemed a top prospect for the Bears right now. The host mentioned that to achieve greatness, Williams doesn’t have to do much but play well enough. He need not concern himself with the likes of Mahomes to be “great.”

This all goes back to the time when the Bears gave up Chase Claypool to the Dolphins and people lost faith in the GM. But he rectified the situation by making room for DJ Moore ultimately.

“I mean that chase Claypool move was pretty embarrassing because his pick ended up being really high and I think uh the Steelers ended up drafting Joey Porter Jr who’s a really high end player. I mean that pick at the high at the beginning of the second round is very very valuable,” said the co-host John Middlekauff.

He then added more by saying, “But that Carolina Panthers trade I mean truly was a game Changer and if Caleb he does not have to become Patrick Mahomes, if he just is a top 10 NFL quarterback which would be probably the best quarterback in the history of the franchise it would change their franchise forever.”
