Odell Beckham Jr. is somewhat of a legend. And that’s though for a league where, more often than not, the spotlight remains on the quarterback. He belongs to a rare breed of wide receivers who have managed to capture the public’s attention and admiration. But how did it all begin? OBJ’s story is an exciting one. He literally shot to stardom overnight. As he himself said, “In one instant, it changed my life forever.”

It also happens to be the nine-year anniversary of that famous catch he made during a game against the Dallas Cowboys that catapulted an unprepared OBJ to NFL stardom.

One catch changed Odell Beckham Jr.’s life forever

The game was 8 minutes into the first quarter and both teams were at nil. New York Giants QB Eli Manning threw a pass toward OBJ, who jumped and in a stunning one-hand catch, grabbed the ball. He fell backward, his feet hit the 2-yard line, and he crashed into the end zone. Touchdown! Although the Giants ended up losing the game 31-28, the catch has earned a place in NFL history.

But OBJ, ever the humble, private person, in an interview with SKY Sports described the catch as both a “blessing and a curse.“It allowed me to be able to do all the things that I’m capable of doing now and brings in a lot of business deals, money, and of those things. On the other hand, it took away the bit of privacy that I try to protect so much.” But would he undo the moment if he could?

“I wouldn’t trade it, I wouldn’t take it back. It was truly one of the most beautiful things in my life.” Beckham, who was a rookie at the time, went on to be the first player in the league’s history to register more than 75 receptions, 10 touchdowns, and 1,100 yards in his debut NFL season. But then things took a turn for OBJ.

Beckham’s departure from the Giants and finding a new home

His three seasons with the Giants came to an abrupt end when he sustained an injury and was unceremoniously traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2018. However, he struggled to bring his magic to the Browns. He then made his way to the Los Angeles Rams and won a Super Bowl with them in 2021.

Finally, he found a home in the Baltimore Ravens in 2022. The Ravens are currently 8-3 and at the top of the AFC North division. So far in the season, he has 374 receiving yards for 42 receptions. However, his ankle injury saw him sidelined for three games this season. But now he is good to go and is all set to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football. What mind-blowing catch will he pull off in this game?
