Carson Wentz is done for the season. He is set to undergo surgery on his left shoulder after having battled through serious pain since the Cleveland Browns in Week 5. The decision to keep playing him under center, while he struggled with a brace, is all down to one person, especially as the Minnesota Vikings had another QB on the roster.

“Irresponsible for the HC/GM to choose Wentz over JJ or Brosmer. Have to protect the player from themselves,” NFL injury expert, Dr. Jesse Moore wrote on his X handle. Well, these words are enough to bring the Vikings’ head coach, Kevin O’Connell, into the spotlight.
The head coaches are responsible for making the final call on the starting lineup. And sending an already injured quarterback under the centre might not be the best idea. While J.J. McCarthy served as an emergency QB in weeks 7 and 8, it signalled that he was medically cleared to take the gridiron. Yet O’Connell went ahead with a staggered Wentz. The 40-year-old coach later decided to clear the air surrounding his decision to give the green light to Wentz.

“We kept on checking in [with Wentz], maybe getting Max ready to go. Tyler was coming to me a lot tonight, but every time he seemed to update me on that. Carson was sore going into it. He took obviously quite a few hits—but he was able to—I asked him multiple times where he was at and he said he was good and wanted to keep going.”
The warrior mentality of Wentz against the Chargers on TNF was on display. But so was his agony.

The QB was seen clutching his arm during the game. In the end, he was seen throwing his helmet while covering his teary face with a towel. As he braces up for the surgery, Wentz has put faith in god for his recovery.
Wentz puts trust in god for a speedy recovery
The 32-year-old veteran had been playing wth a dislocated shoulder, including a torn labrum and fractured socket. But he seems determined, as per his Instagram story.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight,” the QB shared the holy Bible’s Proverbs 3:5-6. While his injury might be bad, his faith is what helps him keep moving forward. This is not the first time Wentz has shown his trust in God.

After his season-ending 2017 ACL injury, Wentz reminded everyone where his strength really comes from. He posted,
“I know my God is a powerful one with a perfect plan… Time to just lean in to Him and trust whatever the circumstances! #Proverbs 3:5-6.” The Vikings will certainly be praying for his healthy return in the next season.
After all, he has been a difference maker throughout the time he was handed over the keys of the offense. In the 5 games that he played this season, Wentz has scored 6 TD and has completed 65.1% of his passes.
For now, McCarthy will continue with the quarterback duties with the 24-year-old Max Brosmer as backup. Coach O’Connell has to be conscious this time as the injury clouds still loom over his starter, and it would be best for the team to avoid any disasters for the rest of his season.
