Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson has gone viral once again. But this time it’s not for a highlight reel catch. It’s because he drove past some young fans doing the Griddy on the side of the road, in his Ferrari. The kids were hoping for just a little acknowledgement, a wave, a “Hey, what’s up?” from the man who’s made the Griddy his signature move in the NFL. Instead, the Vikings WR didn’t stop and raced past the young kids.

The dance didn’t just appear overnight. It started with Allen ‘Griddy’ Davis, a high school athlete in Louisiana, who put together a heel-tap, arm-swinging routine. Ja’Marr Chase introduced it to Jefferson and his other LSU friends before Jefferson made it his own and carried it into the NFL spotlight as his TD celebration.

That’s why this roadside moment went viral. The kids hoped that he would at least roll down the window to acknowledge them. But there’s more at stake here.

He has to abide by the rules off the field as much as he is expected to abide by the ones on it. It doesn’t matter if he is driving a Ferrari or Rolls-Royce; the receiver used common sense in public. And his fans know it.

Vikings’ Justin Jefferson gets support from fans over Ferrari-Griddy snub

When the clip of Justin Jefferson driving past the kids doing the Griddy went viral, Viking fans were quick to defend him. One fan summed it up perfectly. “So he must violate traffic rules to sign some autographs? There are cars behind him; he didn’t want to obstruct the traffic.” The point was simple: expecting Jefferson to stop on a busy road was unrealistic and unsafe.

Another fan had a humorous take. “Tf did they expect him to do on a green light? Jump out the window and sign them all to a 10-day contract 😭😭.” One netizen, however, thought that a simple gesture from Jefferson wouldn’t have inconvenienced anyone. “Roll down a window and say what’s up. Doesn’t take much,” they wrote in reply.

However, the absence of a gesture doesn’t necessarily mean the absence of appreciation, and perhaps Jefferson was just prioritizing. “He’s on a busy road. I’m sure he appreciated what he saw,” wrote on fan.

Another fan just dropped a 4-word message, “It’s a GREEN light.” Justin Jefferson saw the kids and noticed their dance. But in busy traffic, even he couldn’t break the law.

He’s the Griddy king. He saw the fans, and that’s enough. Even if it didn’t turn into a viral wave or handshake.
