The Minnesota Vikings‘ quarterback Carson Wentz started against the LA Chargers with a serious injury in his shoulder. And during the first half of the game at SoFi Stadium, Wentz appeared to injured his arm. At the 4:12 mark in the 2nd quarter, the Vikings were on a 3rd down when Wentz threw the ball, but it hit a defender and went back in the air. The QB tried to put it back on the ground, away from the rivals.

The Vikings’ QB then suddenly started walking towards his camp, holding his left arm in pain. Wentz already wore a brace that looked bigger than he usually wore. 3 medical trainers rushed towards the signal caller and inquired about a potential injury. Alec Lewis, Minnesota beat writer for The Athletic, reported about Wentz walking off the field with obvious pain in his wrist.
“Carson Wentz walking off the field holding his wrist,” Lewis reported.

Wentz had completed 8 of 14 passes for 67 yards, while the team trailed the Chargers with a 3-14 score. The entire first half was far from remember, especially for Carson who is having a poor game.

Knowing the Vikings do not have any QB backup with J.J. McCarthy already injured, head coach Kevin O’Connell had already revealed that Wentz would enter the game with a shoulder injury, which he suffered against the Cleveland Browns. The Vikings failed to protect their ailing QB against a super charged Los Angeles offense. The Chargers sacked him 5 times for 27 yards with 3 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, which somewhat tells the story about how poor the Vikings have been this season.
With the current game going on, the Vikings are fourth in the NFC North with a 3-3 record. The only thing fans would be hoping for is their starter to finish the game. If he doesn’t, they will have to fall back on their inexperienced signal callers.
Vikings don’t have a backup
If Carson Wentz doesn’t play, the Vikes might be forced to play the UDFA rookie QB Max Brosmer, who has yet to start any game for them. While Brosmer have had his moments during college football days for the University of Minnesota in 2024, HC O’Connell prefers to back an injured Wentz ahead of the rookie.

As for QB1 McCarthy, the hyped quarterback is still recovering from a high-ankle sprain he suffered against the Atlanta Falcons. And with O’Connell not rushing McCarthy’s recovery, there’s no confirmation if he will play against the Eagles in the Week 9 game. Yet, now that Wentz has aggravated his shoulder injury, things are looking tougher for the franchise. However, if O’Connell decides, he still has 10 days to check out the options on the trade market until November 4.
Will things stabilize before that, or will the Vikings be forced to add another QB? Stay tuned as we will keep bringing more for you.
