Vocal David Carr Slams Philadelphia Eagles’ Silence Over Jalen Hurts ‘Benching’
Jalen Hurts has had his good and bad plays this season. But nobody can turn away from the fact that Hurts has managed to stay at or near the pinnacle of the MVP ranks this year. He has guided his team to their best record of all time, 10-2, and has also secured 31 total touchdowns. This record puts him second only to Bills’ QB Josh Allen for the most TDs this season.
Moreover, it’s commendable that he’s done so much while fighting a bruised knee all this time. It’s also to be noted that Hurts got left behind a bit at the Philadelphia Eagles‘ Sunday host game against the San Francisco 49ers, as they faced a 42-19 loss. So, based on that, one NFL aficionado feels like Hurts needs to be benched.

In the last week’s Tuesday episode of ‘NFL Total Access’, David Carr expressed his views on benching the Eagles’ shot caller. Carr believes that Hurts cannot be at his full potential, as he’s already showcased in the last game. Moreover, it’s not possible that he’s been completely cured of his knee injury. So, Carr had proposed that the Eagles should put forward Marcus Mariota for this game.
Apparently still in denial. They just want to talk about other things.
Step 1 is admitting you have a problem. https://t.co/N6JaebfTo5— David Carr (@DCarr8) December 11, 2023
It might impose some problems if the Eagles lose their star quarterback to injury so late in the regular season. Turns out, the Eagles are not looking to bench Jalen Hurts anytime soon, not for their upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks. So Carr went on the X, and wrote, “Apparently still in denial. They just want to talk about other things. Step 1 is admitting you have a problem.”

Carr feels that this is a crucial step that needs to be taken by the Eagles and they should implement on it as soon as possible. Moreover, he’s even tried to subside any doubts that loomed regarding their performance with a backup quarterback.

In the next day’s episode of ‘NFL Total Access’, David Carr doubled down on his thoughts regarding the Eagles team and their prevalent problem with Jalen Hurts. He talked about how they should give some rest to the quarterback and hold hands with Marcus Mariota for a couple of matches. However, some have stated that it could affect the performance of the team and might put them in a losing position.
To that, Carr said, “Why play Marcus? I don’t know, to give Jalen a chance to rest, to sit. You can’t win with a backup quarterback? You can’t win with [Cincinnati Bengals quarterback] Jake Browning? With [Indianapolis Colts quarterback] Gardner Minshew?” So Carr’s theory suggests that if all of these teams could win games with their backups, so can Eagles. Then he also added, “Go at it, create one and ones on the outside, I think that would be fantastic. if that’s the case and Jalen has to sit, great.”

He continued further, “And if he’s healthy, fully rested into the playoffs, they have a chance to win the Super Bowl.” So, Carr is overall surprised that the team hasn’t taken him up on his advice. What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comments section.
