Rodgers emphasized, “We can’t rely on the government to help small businesses.” He highlighted, “The money is going out 24 to 72 hours and I think there was just such a need if you look around or environment today, it’s not like the government is really helping anybody out in a timely fashion. I mean, it’s a forever figure out how to give $600 checks away and then, you know, later may not get to $2,000 at this point.”

A-Rod mentioned Barstool’s owner David Portnoy and his folks’ work, and the fund’s ability to provide life-changing support to businesses in a timely manner, unlike what he perceived as ineffective government aid.

A report by Dennis Prager discusses that when the Government expands unnecessarily, three things diminish: goodness, character, and liberty. As a government grows, people tend to do less good for others because they rely on the state. Americans, who historically understood the importance of small government, tend to give more to charity and volunteer more than Europeans. As reliance on the state increases, so does entitlement, ingratitude, and resentment.

Additionally, he pointed out that “bigger government leads to more rules and less liberty, as seen in many parts of Europe.” Therefore, the analysts emphasized on helping each other for a more sustainable economic future.

Rodgers, too, encouraged others to donate to the cause, emphasizing the importance of people helping each other during challenging times. As per the reports, the Barstool Fund raised more than $21 million to help small businesses affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. So, all in all, the four-time MVP, who was with the Packers at that time, highlighted the importance and resilience of small businesses, emphasizing how they contribute to the country’s economic and social fabric.
