Earlier this month, the Kansas City Chiefs utilized their franchise tag on CB L’Jarius Sneed. The reigning Super Bowl winners were expected to negotiate further with Sneed. While his trade details are emerging, the superstar Patrick Mahomes expressed his opinion on the matter at the 101 Awards.

Sneed expects to be the highest-paid CB in the NFL. This has been the point of contention between the player and the franchise. However, Mahomes has done some mediating for Sneed to continue playing with the Chiefs.

Mahomes was at the prestigious ‘101 Awards’ when the topic of Sneed was put forth to him! And the 2X NFL MVP did not shy away from sharing his honest thoughts on the entire situation. “You will hear it from everybody on our team; we want Sneed”, said Mahomes. However, he did not stop there, the 28-year-old explained his reasoning as well.

“The player that he is! The person that he is! He’s one of those guys that’s hungry every single day that he’s in the building”, said Mahomes in praise of his teammate. However, Mahomes understands the need for the 27-year-old CB to get his worth as well.

L’Jarius Sneed is stuck in limbo

Sneed has reportedly been asking for a $20 million per year contract with the Chiefs. After putting the franchise tag on the 2X Super Bowl winner, the Chiefs will be paying $19.4 million for Sneed this year. This mammoth salary will put a dent in their salary cap, especially with the NFL 2024 Draft looming.

Hence, the reports have come out that the Chiefs have traded Sneed to the Tennessee Titans. In return, the Chiefs are rumored to be getting 4th round pick in next year’s draft. And a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft. However, there are also reports suggesting that contract talks have broken down between Sneed and the Titans! Only time will tell if Sneed will play with Mahomes this season or not.
