It’s a cursed night for quarterbacks! While Kansas City Chiefs’ QB, Patrick Mahomes walked into Week 8 with the flu, five other quarterbacks walked in healthy and came out injured. The QB is the de facto leader of any team. And when the QB goes down, the team takes a major hit. We saw that with the New York Jets and how Aaron Rodgers’ absence has seen them struggling to rake in points.

There’s one day left for Halloween, and 5 quarterbacks are already facing nightmares. With some of them more serious than others, how did they sustain these injuries? Are there any chances of them getting back to the gridiron in Week 9? Or will backup QBs have to rise to the occasion and we might just discover a hidden star, the same way we discovered Tom Brady when Drew Bledsoe went down with an injury?

During the fourth quarter of Sunday Night Live’s win over the Green Bay Packers, Vikings’ Kirk Cousins suffered a non-contact injury. As Cousins stepped up in the pocket on a third-down drop-back, he twisted his right leg and buckled under his own weight, and was sacked. After getting up, he was seen limping off the field in pain. HC Kevin O’Connell told reporters that he might be looking at an Achilles tear, but it can be only confirmed after an MRI scan. He finished the day with 23 out of 31 completions for 274 yards with 2 TDs and 0 interceptions.

Los Angeles Rams QB, Matthew Stafford, in the blowout loss to the Cowboys, suffered a thumb injury. During the first half, his hands collided with Cowboys DT Mazi Smith’s helmet and his thumb started to bleed profusely. He slipped into the locker room to get it checked and returned during the third quarter. But before the quarter ended, he rushed to the locker room again and emerged with his hand heavily taped. Stafford recorded 162 passing yards with 1 TD and 1 interception before he went down.

Pittsburgh Steelers Injury Update – Week 8 Goes Bad to Worse With Kenny Pickett Joining Their Safety on the Sidelines

Atlanta Falcons QB, Desmond Ridder led his team to a 4-3 record, but then going into Week 8, it seemed like he wouldn’t finish it. At halftime during the game against the Titans, he was benched with the team trailing 14-3. Backup QB Taylor Heincke was called in to replace. During halftime, he was checked for a concussion but cleared it. So, it seems like he has been sidelined due to performance issues. However, the next two QBs are suffering genuine injuries.

Tyrod Taylor was called in to fill in for Daniel Jones, as he skipped the Jets game due to a neck injury. But the backup QB didn’t see much action as he suffered a rib injury during the first half. He was preparing to make a throw under pressure when the ball slipped out of his hands. He proceeded to take possession of the ball when he was taken down hard by the Jets. The Giants’ second backup QB, Tommy DeVito, had to be called in, but he failed to secure a victory over the Jets.

In the 20-10 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Steelers QB Kenny Pickett suffered a rib injury during the first half. During halftime, the Steelers said that Pickett would return, but failed to do so in the second half. He had thrown for 73 yards on 10-of-16 passing before exiting. Backup QB Mitchell Trubisky came in to fill in for him and did a fairly good job of collecting points. But he ultimately failed to close in on the gap resulting in the Steelers’ third win of the season.

Some night this has been for the league’s quarterbacks! With seven days left for the next slew of games, fans are hoping that the QBs will manage to recover and get into a position where they can bring their A-game. Neither of the teams have a bye-week either so that’s all the time they got to recover. While Kirk Cousins’ injury looks season-ending, the others have a chance at redemption.
