As the Kansas City Chiefs took the ground against the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl LVIII, the spotlight was on Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs’ quarterback was sensational for the Chiefs in their previous two Super Bowl victories in 2020 and 2023. But as the match kicked off at Allegiant Stadium, Mahomes looked a shadow of his former self. However, he soon dusted himself off, got up, and took home his third championship ring, ending the night with 333 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Damien Woody calls Patrick Mahomes the Michael Jordan of the NFL after Super Bowl dominance

Michael Jordan, without a doubt, is the NBA GOAT. And chasing the same legacy in the NFL is Patrick Mahomes, who vowed to do a 3-peat Super Bowl with the Chiefs. But former NFL offensive guard Damien Woody believes he is already in the MJ era. “We’re in the Michael Jordan era right now. We’re in the Michael Jordan era for Patrick Mahomes“, he opinionated on ESPN’s Get Up show.

The former New England Patriots player urged to stop comparing Mahomes with the rest of the league’s best players, including Josh Allens and Lamar Jackson. ‘It’s literally that man right there (Michael Jordan), Patrick Mahomes and everybody else,” he said. Drawing similarities between My and Mahomes, Woody added that just like NBA teams fought for championships only to lose to Jordan, the same was the case in the NFL currently. It indeed is. Mahomes has won three Super Bowl championships in the last 4 years, and he isn’t done yet just like the man chasing ghost in Chicago.

Despite winning three championships and the recent one under absolute pressure to bring a championship to Cleveland, ‘The King’ isn’t satisfied. LeBron James is undoubtedly one of the greatest NBA players, but he feels he is yet to reach the level of Michael Jordan, and wouldn’t sit still without accomplishing it. “My motivation is this ghost I’m chasing. The ghost played in Chicago“, he recently revealed.

James admitted that he had attained unprecedented success, but not as much as MJ. “What he did was unbelievable, and I watched it unfold. I looked up to him so much. I think it’s cool to put myself in position to be one of those great players, but if I can ever put myself in position to be the greatest player, that would be something extraordinary,” he believes. Both he and 3x Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes are the best in their business. And it’s going to be epic watching them chase GOAT status.
