Geno Smith marked his entry in the NFL as a second-round pick of the 2013 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. But Smith made his mark before his NFL career when he played for West Virginia University from 2009 to 2012, finishing with 93 career touchdowns and 33 school records. Smith was born on October 10, 1990, in Miramar, Florida, USA. Being born in the Sunshine State, the American grew up watching and playing Football. Being born in a region known as a national hotbed for football talent, he soon became one of the state’s top quarterback prospects in high school. But before that, he joined Norland Middle School’s magnet program, which dedicated two hours per day to arts instruction.

Smith attended Miramar High School, where former Mountaineer Damon Cogdell coached him. During his Junior years, Smith completed 2,200 yards for 25 touchdowns and had three interceptions. He was also named second-team all-state quarterback.

Then in 2007, he was named second-team all-Broward County as an athlete. His junior year was so impressive that he received an invitation to the Elite 11 quarterback camp in Aliso Viejo, California. Through his senior years, Smith completed 205 of 338 passes for 3,089 yards. He had a total of 30 touchdowns in his senior year and became the No. 1 rated player in Broward County, as per the South Florida Sun Sentinel and Miami Herald.

Geno Smith is African-American. Smith was born to Eugene Smith Jr. and Tracy Sellers. Smith’s family might be living in Florida, but they hail from Bimini in the Bahamas. Smith’s paternal grandfather is Eugene Cyril/Larry Smith.
Both Smith’s father and mother have played a significant role in shaping Smith’s career. Taking inspiration from his parents, Smith has progressed from Norland Middle School to the NFL. His father has a calm and encouraging presence in his son’s life.

In 2013, Tracy gave an interview and discussed her relationship with Smith. “The relationship with my son is simply mother-son, and praying before and after football games, and worrying about Geno Smith, the young man. … He has a wonderful support system,” Tracy said.

Geno Smith has been publicly open about his religion. Smith’s a Christian. Back in 2013, when Brad Wells of Stampedblue interviewed Smith, he disclosed his religion and upbringing. “I was raised in the church and I’m high in my faith,” Smith said.
