I’ll be ready to go.” This is what DeShon Elliott, Pittsburgh Steelers safety, told the media upon his return to the gridiron after suffering two devastating injuries that could’ve ended his career. One of those setbacks came early on, during his time with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Steelers’ #25 brings a unique energy to the game—he sees the world through a gridiron lens and seems to outshine everyone on the field. The 27-year-old Texas Longhorns alum was drafted by the Ravens in 2018, and no one was happier about it than his parents.

Reflecting on his father, DeShon once said, “My dad was my first coach. He made sure I was tough.” DeShon’s world was turned upside down when Arme was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully, he recovered, but it was a tough chapter in their lives. Regardless, another pillar of strength in DeShon’s life was his mom, Tiffany.

DeShon’s mom, Tiffany, is a homemaker and the heart of their family. She’s raised three children—DeShon and his younger sisters, Antinece and Taylor—with love and resilience. DeShon often worries about his mom, especially when he thinks about what could’ve happened if those injuries had ended his career.

Tiffany taught DeShon to reach his full potential and take care of his family. That’s why the 27-year-old always says, “I gotta be the man in my family.” Elliott currently plays for the Steelers, but he doesn’t think his being in the franchise is just a coincidence. When asked about it, he said that it was his childhood dream to play for the Steelers.
