Ikem Ekwonu shares a strong bond with his siblings. “I will always be grateful for our brotherhood,” Carolina Panthers OT Ikem’s brother, Ositadinma Ekwonu, once said, reflecting his sentiments and regard for his twin brother. With the support of his siblings and parents, Ikem, the NFL OT, is entering his third season with the Panthers. Like him, his brother is also a football enthusiast. And throughout Ikem’s NFL journey, his sister, Adaora Ekwonu, and brother, Osita, have consistently stood by his side.

NFL left tackle Ikem’s brother, Osita, is a linebacker in the redshirt senior class for the UNC Charlotte 49ers football program. He appeared in a total of 12 games, recording four tackles with one QB hurry. Before joining Charlotte, he played for four seasons at Notre Dame from 2019 to 22.

Though he did not play any games in 2021, Osita was regarded as a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He took advantage of the new redshirt norms by participating in three special team’s games in 2019 as a freshman, earning a tackle against Bowling Green.

Last year, in May 2023, Osita was honored by the University of Notre Dame upon receiving his degree. He shared several pictures on Instagram, featuring himself with Ikem and their sister, Adaora. He also expressed his gratitude to the university, writing, “Thank You, Notre Dame☘️.”

Even in high school, Providence Day School recruiters were initially more interested in Osita than Ikem. Coming from a sports family, it’s no wonder that football runs in the blood of both Osita and Ikem.

Interestingly, their high school coach, Adam Hastings, recognized this. When Osita received 12 offers in one day, Hastings said, “Ickey’s time would come.” He added, “He had a really good sophomore year on JV, then that summer he really ballooned up, size-wise.

However, the Ekwonu brothers molded their football careers with each other support.

Their parents, Tagbo and Amaka Ekwonu, have always ensured that the siblings stick together. For Icky, his family is his biggest support system. His parents and siblings have always attended their games, showing their full support.

Ikem Ekwonu also states that he and his siblings grew up in a highly competitive environment, stating, “That’s always been the standard at my house. Whatever passion you wanted to pursue, you wanted to achieve it at the highest level.”

The eldest sibling, Osita, also received offers from prestigious programs like Alabama and Ohio State, as he chose to play for Notre Dame at the college level. And his sister, Adaora, is an aspiring psychiatrist. She is a medical student at the University of Chicago, as she intends to follow in their father’s footsteps in the medical field. As they say, the family that slays together stays together.
