Steelers vs. Bengals: where the jungle meets the forge, and playoff dreams often end up in the scrap heap. And it’s the same story this time as well. Week 13 AFC North clash is a do-or-die for Ciny. I mean, at 4-7 the Bengals are clinging to their season by a thread.

But that’s when they would have loved playing low layers of the season, not high-flyers like the Steelers. Yup, it’s the 8-3 heavyweights up next for them. Now, you can bet it’s Survival Mode: ON for the Bengals. There’s no other way around it.

Fresh off their bye, the Bengals have one clear path forward: win all six remaining games or pack it up. Sounds easy when you say it fast, right? But let’s not kid ourselves. The Steelers are perched comfortably atop the division, doing what they do best—winning ugly.

They’ve edged out rivals like the Ravens, so don’t expect them to hand over a W on a silver platter. So, let’s not even talk about home-field advantage for the Bengals when the Steelers have bagged clutch dubs.

Plus, let’s not forget the Bengals’ classic Achilles’ heel—officiating drama. “Ref jinx” anyone? They might want to tighten up because Shawn Hochuli wearing black and white stripes doesn’t really bring a sigh of relief for the Who Dey.

Steelers vs. Bengals: The ref and announcers don’t bring good news for Cincy

It’d be a fun game of tough luck between Steelers vs. Bengals. But one, where Cincy might think: Why? Why, now? First up, referee Shawn Hochuli. If his name rings a bell, well, that’s because he and his crew have a knack for tossing flags like they’re confetti at a touchdown celebration. With 13.6 penalties per game, they rank fifth in the league. And they have just been a menace for the Bengals handing them heartbreaks, like the OT loss to these same Steelers in 2022. Ah, sh-t! Here we go again…

Then there is CBS’s team that is calling the game. Another bad luck incoming (if you believe in footballing superstitions).  Ian Eagle, Charles Davis, and Evan Washburn are calling this game, and here’s where it gets spooky. The Steelers are undefeated (3-0) in games this crew has covered this season. Coincidence? Maybe. But if you’re from the Who Dey Nation, you just don’t want to read any further.

But it’s not all doom and gloom for Bengals Nation. With stars like Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the offense can light up the scoreboard. The problem? Their defense has been about as consistent as an undrafted rookie in a playoff game. Still, in a division as chaotic as the AFC North, anything’s possible. Can Cincy overcome the ref-whistles and commentator streaks, or will Pittsburgh hammer down another win? Grab your popcorn—and a cup of hot chocolate, if you must because you’re gonna see a lot of cold plays and chilly stares.
