Mike McDaniel is a football nerd, responsible for one of the fastest offenses in the league with the Miami Dolphins. But who’s he at home? We know him as this studious and humorous football coach, but even after 10 years of marriage, he still looks like a rookie who’s seeing his locker room on day one. Perhaps a successful marriage is the secret to his enthusiasm. Mike credits his wife Katie Hemstalk McDaniel for his astounding coaching career in the NFL. But how did the two meet? That’s a really funny story that aired on national television.

“One of the running backs that [McDaniel] coaches is dancing with a girl, and Mike says, ‘Listen, you’re not dancing with her anymore or you’re not playing with this team next year.’ So, then McDaniel starts dancing with her,” said Al Michaels on a live TNF game and added, “Four years later, they’re married. Katie, that’s how he met her.”

If that’s not love at first sight, we don’t know what is. This happened in 2010 and within 4 years of knowing each other, the couple was off to get married in Ashburn, Virginia. The coach hanging out with his wife and his cute daughter on the sidelines is a must-catch for the cameras during games.

Sadly, Katie’s Instagram account is not public, so we couldn’t get a glimpse of her personal life, but we do know that she’s a licensed esthetician (since 2005) and a cosmetologist (2011-2023). The couple got married in 2014 and 6 years later, they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Alya June.

There’s not much information that’s publicly available about Katie, but Mike McDaniel delivered a heartfelt message for his family at his introductory presser two years back. “My wife, Katie McDaniel. We’ve come a long way. We’ve got a long way to go,” he said, holding back tears. “And my daughter, Ayla June McDaniel, you are a miracle, and I can’t wait to see what you grow into.”

But as successful as McDaniel is on the field, he’s still afraid that Mrs. might throw him in the doghouse if he doesn’t come correct when he’s at home.

The coach might come across as studious, but one thing that he ensures whenever he gets time off from his busy NFL schedule is he spends time with his family and doesn’t waste a single moment. So, what does McDaniel do when he’s home alone with his wife and kid? Well, he does chores of course.

“So I’m a leader by example. I’m going to show these guys how to rest my butt off, and then when I’m not asleep, I’ll be daddying and husbanding,” McDaniel told Sports Illustrated’s Fan Nation. “I’ll have some honey-dos. I’ll do my chores because I won’t want to be in the doghouse.”

It’s all worth it for McDaniel for the strong support system that he has in Katie, through thick and thin. Perhaps that’s why the Miami Dolphins HC is so emotional when it comes to his wife and his family.
