Before the Broncos head coach popped the question at a party in November 2019, Skylene and Payton dated for five years. After first declaring his coaching retirement the year before, Payton took the helm as head coach of the Broncos in 2023.

Skylene, a West Virginia native, graduated from Marshall University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology. After that, she would enroll in a West Virginia nursing program and graduate from Loyola University with an advanced nursing degree.

The 38-year-old worked as an assistant nurse at Huntington, West Virginia’s St. Mary’s Hospital before leaving the post. In the past, Skylene worked as a gastrointestinal nurse in a New Orleans intensive care unit. She was a model as well as the winner of Miss Virginia. Skylene competed in the Miss USA pageant in 2008, representing her home state as well.

SkyleneMontgomery was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, on December 4, 1984. Before attending Marshall University, she attended Parkersburg South High School. Montgomery graduated from Marshall with a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology and from Loyola University with a degree in advanced nursing.

Sean Payton’s current wife played volleyball and softball as a child, but she decided to become a doctor instead. She reportedly works at Ochsner LSU Health as a nurse. She once competed in beauty pageants, placing first in 2007 for Miss West Virginia and first in 2008 for Miss USA.

Payton and Montgomery didn’t cross paths during an NFL game between the New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers until 2014. Payton filed for divorce from Beth Shuey, his first wife, in 2012. They had been married since 1992. Connor and Meghan were the couple’s joint children from their marriage. On November 8, 2019, Montgomery and Sean Payton got engaged after starting a courtship. In June 2021, the two tied the knot. In opulent seclusion, the wedding took place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, officiated by Avery Johnson, a former NBA player and coach.
