But the last time these two teams met, Swift wasn’t even in Kelce’s wildest dreams. It was social media influencer and sports journalist Kayla Nicole who would accompany the Chiefs’ tight end for his NFL clashes.

Kelce and Nicole started dating in 2017, a few months after the Super Bowl winner broke up with Maya Benberry, the winner of his dating show, Catching Kelce. After his on-again, off-again relationship with Nicole – which lasted five years – ended in 2022, the tight end admitted to having a crush on Taylor Swift in August 2023 after attending one of her concerts. And since pop culture’s biggest romance in recent times has made headlines, Kayla Nicole has come back into the limelight. But who is she dating?

In an episode of the Behind the Likes podcast, Kayla Nicole said she had moved on from her relationship with the star tight end, Travis Kelce. Although she hasn’t dated anyone since her split with Kelce – at least publicly – the 32-year-old expressed her liking for a distinct set of people. However, that doesn’t include the NFL player kind. “I’ll never say never, but I fully, wholeheartedly believe that I am out of the athlete stage,” she said, as reported by ET.

Nicole added, “I do think that I am attracted to men in positions of power, and I also think those types of men are attracted to me. I would love to date an executive of a record label or a movie producer so that we can go to the sporting events.” Having been an NFL sideline reporter and an NBA courtside reporter in her career, she expressed, “Let date night be courtside at the Laker[s] game. That’s my kind of guy.” As for her time in Kelce’s corner, she called it “fun.” Considering they had been a significant part of each other’s lives for five years, the breakup was tough for the influencer.

In a conversation with People, she opened up about how the breakup affected her mental health. “I went through this major breakup, major life change. I was working out, I was in really great shape, but I felt like sh*t, and I was sad, and I was having a hard time getting out of bed. So, I started to go to therapy.” Although they split more than a year ago, Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift brought a lot of unwanted negative attention to Nicole. And she addressed that in an open letter called “Dear Black Girl” on Instagram.

In the video from October 2023, she said, “Dear Black girl, they may call you a traitor for falling in love. You’ll hope the ones closest will protect you, but you will quickly find out that people don’t protect what they don’t value.” Aiming to use her platform to elevate and unite women, she added, “You don’t have to participate in this tumultuous, often one-sided journey. Preserve your heart even when they try to quantify your character. You do not have to respond because there is power in your silence. And you can use that same power to silence the noise and the self-doubt.”

Kayla Nicole on the Kelce-Swift relationship

Kayla Nicole and Travis Kelce first broke up in 2020 but eventually got back together. However, after the two again called it quits in 2022, Kelce found love in Taylor Swift. As the relationship went public, Nicole didn’t show much of a reaction. She unfollowed Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, who were pictured regularly with Swift. While that social media decision raised quite a few eyebrows, Nicole clarified that “the love is still there,” and she did it for her mental health.

Although she didn’t directly address the Kelce-Swift relationship, Kelce’s first publicly known girlfriend, Maya Benberry, sure did. In an interview with Daily Mail, she warned the pop star. “Taylor seems like such a fun girl with a beautiful spirit so I wish her the best of luck, but I wouldn’t be a girls’ girl if I didn’t advise her to be smart!” She even Kelce “a cheater.” 

Moments after the harsh comments, though, Benberry received extensive trolling on social media. Travis Kelce has remained silent on these accusations, and at the moment, he is enjoying Swift’s presence. To add to that, he has a Super Bowl to look forward to, winning which will add to his happiness.
