Finding top-tier free-agent wide receivers this time in the NFL can be quite challenging for teams. However, the Detroit Lions do not have another option. Teams like the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans have already added top available weapons in the form of Odell Beckham Jr. and DeAndre Hopkins, respectively.

Furthermore, the Chiefs re-picked their strong asset, Mecole Hardman, to solve their offensive end issues. With all the teams trading and signing the players this time, it’s important to note that the Lions, being 5-2 in the season so far, lost their two receivers this year. The latest is the Lions made a surprising move related to WR Marvin Jones Jr. this Saturday.

This year, in April, the Lions re-signed wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. in place of DJ Chark. Jones played with the Jacksonville Jaguars for two seasons, the Lions for five seasons, and earlier with the Cincinnati Bengals for the first four seasons of his NFL career. Jones Jr. signed a one-year $3 million deal with Megatron this offseason.

But this Tuesday, the wide receiver made a shocking announcement on Twitter, mentioning family care & responsibility as the reason behind his move. Although he didn’t clarify if he was permanently saying goodbye to football, he has only stepped down from the Ford Family as of now.

But now, as he stepped down, who will take his place? The Lions again fell into the same dilemma as they had experienced during the exit of Chark.

These free agents can be a similar fit for the Lions!

Marvin Jones Jr. was once a core part of the Lions. However, with his little downfall in his performances, Jones Jr. decided to part ways with the Ford Family. Now the question arises: who will be taking his spot?

The person must have a similarity with Marvin Jones or even a comparable athletic profile. These top 5 free agent wide receivers’ names include Jarvis Landry, who had 570 yards and two touchdowns two years back. Although he has been slowed down in his gameplay due to injuries, once healthy, Landry, with his combination of size and speed, can be a versatile weapon on the field. Besides him, Julio Jones, who was once considered one of the best wide receivers in the league, can also fit in place of Jones Jr., helping the team in a limited role.

Kenny Golladay is also finding his right squad this year. He has proven his worth with his two 1,000-yard seasons with the Lions earlier. Hence, returning to his well-known team could benefit him and the Megatron.

On the other hand, Sammy Watkins once helped the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl LIV. Although he wasn’t in the form after that, he can be a valuable weapon for the Lions, as who knows, Watkins can stretch the field as per the requirement.

Andre Roberts can also be a good option for the Lions as he brings superior return skills besides his wide receiver prowess. He has named himself a three-time All-Pro kick returner and four-time Pro Bowler. Hence, all these options can suit the Lions in their crucial time.

Nevertheless, as the Ford team is heading to face the Las Vegas Raiders in their next, for the time being, the Lions could choose between second-year wideout Jameson Williams and rookie Antoine Green. The team will be hoping for either to play better this time, considering their previous poor performances with no catch passes.
