Despite Sitting Below Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert Edges Out the Chiefs QB Ahead of Divisional Test

Ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs’ clash with divisional rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers, stats certainly paint a contradicting picture. The Chiefs are at the top of the AFC West division, while the Chargers are third. Despite being acclaimed as the greatest quarterback in the league, right now, it seems that numbers have a different story to tell. This comes after Mahomes gloated in front of Chargers QB Justin Herbert about a bigger deal than the Super Bowl MVP that he can also win.
The Chiefs will be looking to maintain their winning streak of 5, with momentum on their side. The Chargers are 2-3, but recently beat archrivals, the Las Vegas Raiders who were above them on the divisional rankings.

The Chargers can easily boast of the best QB in their division if not for Patrick Mahomes. While overall, Mahomes may be better, certain categories show Herbert above Mahomes. A quick look at the stats page on the NFL website shows Herbert above Mahomes on both pass completion and yards per attempt metrics. While Mahomes has a pass completion rate of 68.3%, Herbert inched ahead with 68.7%. On the other metric as well, Justin Herbert has a yards/attempt of 7.3, while Mahomes has 7.1. Will Herbert be able to play to his strengths to gain victory over the Chiefs?
Herbert played his first game against Mahomes in 2020. He was called in to replace Tyrod Taylor who had his lung accidentally punctured by a doctor trying to give him a painkiller injection. Herbert charged in and gave the Chargers a 3-point lead over the Chiefs with two and a half minutes left to play. However, they could not win in the end as Mahomes and Co. managed a field goal during the final moments of the game.

Days ago, the rival QBs featured in a Subway ad introducing their new MVP rewards feature. Every time someone bought a Subway, they would get “MVP Rewards” which could be redeemed later. As Mahomes was introducing the new feature, a puzzled Justin Herberts asked him if SB MVPs get all the great perks. Mahomes downplayed his 2 SB MVP wins and said that the Subway MVP win was a much bigger deal!
