In the final moments of the second quarter, Kelce went crashing down to the ground, clutching his knee in pain. In the second high-profile accident of the day, Kelce had hurt himself on the artificial turf of US Bank Stadium. The other one was Taron Johnson of the Buffalo Bills. As Kelce limped into the locker room, 2x SB MVP Patrick Mahomes did not reach out to Kelce.

Why did Mahomes not reach out to his best chum while he was injured? After the Vikings match, during the interaction with the media, Mahomes revealed the reason for doing so. And it was a reason we did not expect.

When posed with the question if he got to interact with Kelce during his downtime, Mahomes said with a snigger, “I don’t like to talk to Travis when he’s hurting. He’s a mean guy. I did not talk to him at half-time.” He also said that he did take a peek in to check if his TE was good to go in the next half. Before the players dispersed for half-time, the score was tied at 13-13.

It could be possible that Kelce does not like his teammates seeing him in that vulnerable state. Or that he gets irritable when injured thinking about how it would hamper his performance on the gridiron. And in this match, Kelce had another reason to be infuriated: Taylor Swift’s absence. However, even the injury could not hold back Killa Trav as he made a stunning and immediate recovery.

As the game entered half-time, Travis Kelce was spotted jogging around the field in a bid to test his readiness for the next half. And boy, was he ready! He entered the game looking entirely unhurt. Then, when the ball was snapped to Mahomes and he was looking for someone to pass to, he found Kelce running across the field. He targeted Kelce and touchdown! In spite of being hurt, the TE managed to add another touchdown to his record.

Patrick Mahomes recently stated, “Travis has the same mindset as I do. If you give him a window. He’s going to get back in the game. So he’s a competitor, man. That’s why he’s one of the greatest.” Well, Mahomes knows Kelce is just like him, and the two are a classic example of camaraderie.

The last time Kelce was absent on the field, it cost the Chiefs their only defeat of the season. The upcoming practice sessions and the subsequent injury reports will tell us if Kelce’s injury is really nothing severe. The 4-1 Chiefs are set to meet the 1-4 Denver Broncos on October 13. Will the Kelce-Mahomes partnership shine though once again or will the Broncos get the chance to add a victory to their record? Only time will tell.
