This NFL season has been marked by historic moments and record-breaking achievements. Whether it’s QB Russell Wilson becoming the first player to reach 40,000 passing yards and 5,000 rush yards in the league, or Patrick Mahomes achieving the fastest double-century of career touchdown passes, we’ve witnessed incredible feats.

From Mahomes making history by defeating all 31 rival teams before the age of 30 to the Kansas City Chiefs playing in the U.S. Bank Stadium against the Minnesota Vikings for the first time, this season has been filled with unforgettable moments. And now, we’re witnessing yet another historic moment in this Monday night football game.

The Monday night football game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Green Bay Packers kicked off on Monday, October 9 at 8:15 p.m. ET at Allegiant Stadium. While this game holds importance for both teams and their fans, it’s especially significant for the Carlson brothers.

According to senior NFL reporter Adam Schefter, Daniel Carlson of the Raiders and Anders Carlson of the Packers will be the first pair of kicker brothers to face each other in the league since 1987.

Schefter noted “The last pair of brothers who were kickers to play in the same NFL game were Chris and Matt Bahr on Dec. 20, 1987 when the Raiders played the Browns. Chris kicked for the Raiders and Matt kicked for the Browns.” In that game, Cleveland won the matchup 24-17.

With this brotherly kicking duel happening after a long 36 years, the game promises to be an exciting watch for football enthusiasts.

Ahead of the game, Daniel Carlson (28) acknowledges that the matchup holds special significance for the brothers. During an interview, he expressed, “I’m like 1,000,000 and 0 in brotherly competition, but we’re 0-0 in overall football competition. There’s going to be a balance of, ‘Hey, I got a game to get ready for.’

He continued, “But I want to be conscious of taking some moments out and appreciating, ‘Hey, we’ve both worked really hard. This has been our dream for a while. To see it come to fruition and get to play against each other is really special.’” The Raiders have Daniel Carlson, a 2022 All-Pro and one of the NFL’s premier kickers, while the Packers have Anders Carlson (25), a rookie who is stepping in for Mason Crosby as Green Bay’s kicker.
