Trey Lance of North Dakota State University is a wanted man in the NFL. The quarterback is high on the list of multiple franchises looking to draft a QB in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.

Named the starter for the NDSU Bisons in 2018, Trey Lance showcased his talent on the college football circuit by throwing 28 touchdowns for no interceptions.

Now set to enter the NFL, the QB is a near-guaranteed Round 1 pick. And for that, the quarterback might have to thank his footballing genes.

Football runs in the family for Trey Lance

Trey Lance was born and raised in the city of Marshall, Minnesota. He started off as a running back in youth football but soon transitioned to quarterback in middle school.

Interestingly, his father was once a football player himself. Trey’s father, Carlton Lance, played cornerback at Southwest Minnesota State. In fact, he was so good that he even made the college’s Hall of Honor.

Carlton also played for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League and the London Monarchs of the World League of American Football.

Carlton Lance even made the practice squad for the NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers. Thus it’s safe to say that football runs in the family bloodline.

Carlton met Trey Lance’s mother, Angie Lance, back in college. The two stuck through Carlton’s career as a globetrotter and thus are aware of the life that comes with having an athlete in the family.

Angie is a 1993 alumna of Southwest Minnesota State and currently works at Schwan’s. Together, the couple has two children, Trey and his younger brother Bryce. Bryce, a wide receiver, also enrolled at North Dakota State and is set to play for the Bisons in 2021.

Now retired from football, Carlton Lance is the co-owner of Hampton Ridge Financial, an equipment finance company. While his dreams of playing in the NFL are now behind him, the family is excited to see their son Trey Lance take on the challenge very soon.
