Jim Kelly carved out an unmatched NFL legacy during his wonderful 11-year run with the Buffalo Bills. His legendary career earned him five Pro Bowl selections and induction into the Hall of Fame in 2002. Decades later, Kelly sees a new but similar wave of hope in the Bills’ star quarterback, Josh Allen. In fact, the Bills legend has presented Allen with a major NFL feat to achieve.

Kelly shared a series of Instagram stories on Wednesday that captured the emotional moment when he handed Allen the future of his team with a strong verdict. In the first story, he is giving a ball to the 29-year-old. The ball is autographed by both players and inscribed with the words “Passing the Torch.” And in the next story, he made this bold declaration about Allen’s future.

Coming from a Hall of Famer, the move carries some serious weight. However, this meaningful gesture goes beyond football and aims to serve a greater cause. It is part of a donation drive led by the Hunter’s Hope Foundation, which was co-founded by Jim Kelly and his wife Jill Kelly in 1997. They established it in memory of their son Hunter, who battled the rare genetic disorder Krabbe Leukodystrophy.

Since its launch, the organization has focused on funding research and raising awareness. It also provided vital support to families affected by Krabbe disease and other leukodystrophies. Now, the charity is giving away this autographed “Passing the Touch” football to raise funds. In an Instagram post, the foundation explained how people can enter for a chance to win the “once-in-a-lifetime collector’s item.” The caption of their post highlighted the impact of this giveaway.

“Every dollar goes toward supporting families through the Hunter’s Hope Foundation…helping bring hope, encouragement, and support when it’s needed most,” the post’s caption reads. “This football is rare and AWESOME!!”

Back at Allen, he continues to validate Jim Kelly’s expectations. He has even responded to the growing MVP talks around him.

After Jim Kelly’s honor, Allen shares his take on the MVP buzz

The Buffalo Bills’ star player has earned all the love and praise coming his way, one explosive play at a time. The franchise is riding high on a three-game winning streak and has proved its mettle against quality opponents such as the New England Patriots. And there’s no doubt that Allen’s elite play has been at the center of it all.

With the Bills back on track, the quarterback has found his way back in the MVP talks as the tournament heads into Week 16. So far, Allen has posted 3,276 passing yards while completing 70 percent of his throws, along with 25 touchdown passes and just 10 interceptions. Moreover, he had a powerful impact on the ground, rushing for 535 rushing yards and scoring 12 rushing touchdowns.

The former first-round pick has also crossed the 200-yard mark in passing yards nine times this season. But despite the growing MVP chatter, Allen wants to focus on the bigger picture.

“I’m just trying to do my job,” he said. “Just trying to find a way to get in the playoffs here.”

His mindset not only shows his humility but also the growing urgency surrounding the Bills’ situation. With just three games remaining in the regular season, there’s little room for error. Beating the Cleveland Browns in Week 16 remains crucial as it will keep them within striking distance of the division. While MVP buzz is flattering, securing a postseason spot remains more important for Allen and his team.
