Former San Francisco 49ers star Terrell Owens is mourning the loss of his father, and he shared the news with his followers in a heartfelt Instagram post.

“He’s gone. He’s finally gained his wings,” Owens wrote, alongside photos of the two of them together. “… The past few years have been filled with heartache. Lost my cousin due to a drunk driver 2 years ago, my aunt Bink to cancer literally a year ago today and now him. This hurts.

“Despite any situation, I’ve always loved my dad. I’m so glad I had the chance to tell him how much I loved him. He wasn’t perfect, and that’s okay. Neither am I. You’ll be deeply missed by many. There would be no ‘TO’ without him. Love you, Dad! Rest In Peace. Thank you.”

Terrell Owens had a tough childhood. For a long time, he did not know who his father was, and grew up with a very strict grandmother. Owens didn’t know until he was 11 years old that his father, L.C. Russell, lived right across the street from him. However, that relationship seems to have mended with time.
