When you think of the Kansas City Chiefs, QB Patrick Mahomes is synonymous with it. After being drafted as the 10th overall by the Chiefs in 2017, Mahomes became a force to reckon with when he became the starting QB in 2018. In his seven seasons starting for the Chiefs, the 28-year-old secured three Super Bowl wins and was named the SB MVP for all three victories.

Johnny Manziel surprises his audience with a revelation

Johnny Manziel joins The Rush with Maxx Crosby on YouTube to drop interesting revelations on how he almost became the Chiefs QB instead of Patrick Mahomes. He revealed, “Funny story I haven’t told very many people is I thought I was going to sign in Kansas City the same year that Mahomes got drafted. So I think if they wouldn’t have taken a quarterback, which thank God they did, I think I could have ended up there.”

Aka Johnny Football, Manziel entered college football with the Texas A&M Aggies as a dual-threat QB in 2012. He performed exceptionally in his college football career becoming the first freshman to pass for 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a season. He also secured coveted awards including the Heisman Trophy, the Manning Award, and the Davey O’Brien Award. So, what happened that he only spent two seasons in the NFL?

What happened to Johnny Manziel?

After his college career, he was drafted by the Browns in 2014 as a first-round No. 22 pick. Initially, he found success with the franchise but his inconsistency landed him in trouble. On top of that, his off-field controversies became his stumbling block which ultimately led to his dismissal from the team in 2015. Some of his off-field controversies include a drunken argument with girlfriend, lying to the team, gambling, and more.

Following his dismissal and more controversies during the 2016 offseason including domestic violence, no NFL teams signed him. But Johnny Manziel joined the CFL in 2018 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes, AAF in 2019 with the Memphis Express, and Fan Controlled Football from 2021 to 2022. Football may not be his passion anymore but Manziel is now thriving as a businessman who opened Johnny Manziel’s Money Bar in College Main Street, Texas last fall.
