American Journalist, Tom Pelissero took to X on March 12th to post an interesting fact on Aaron Jones’s recent transfer. He tweeted, “With Aaron Jones agreeing to terms in Minnesota, he joins the list of former #Packers stars to eventually wear purple, along with Brett Favre, Ryan Longwell, Greg Jennings, Za’Darius Smith and others.

Tom Pelissero’s tweet referred to the list of players who have moved to the Minnesota Vikings from the Green Bay Packers, after Aaron Jones’ recent transfer. The list is interesting not just because of the players in it, but also because of the long-standing fierce rivalry between the two sides. It includes many retired Packers legends starting from RB John Brockington (1971-1974) and WR Greg Jennings and Robert Ferguson. The list also includes legendary QB Brett Favre, Pass-Rusher Za’Darius Smith, Safety Darren Sharper, and Kicker Ryan Longwell besides Aaron Jones.

However, it gets even more exciting because of the fierce rivalry between the two sides who share the border of Wisconsin. The rivalry began soon after the Vikings joined the NFL in 1961 but it had been a balanced game till now, although both sides had the upper hand on different occasions. The rivalry has also produced many thrilling encounters and Aaron Jones will be on the other side of this encounter now.

Why did the Green Bay Packers let go of Aaron Jones despite his impressive performance?

Aaron Jones was unceremoniously released this year as the Packers roped in 26-year-old Josh Jacobs from the Las Vegas Raiders. This led to the end of a 7-year relationship between the Packers and Jones. But why would the Packers let go of someone who has been a staple for the Packers till now? The position of WR requires an athlete to be quick, agile, and athletic. With age, these attributes decrease. Hence, the teams are allegedly looking for younger athletes for these positions. Hence, the Packers decided to rope in Josh Jacobs at a $48 million deal for four years. So, they had to let go of Jones to make some financial space for Jacobs’ new deal.

On the other hand, the Vikings will gain from the addition of Jones as he brings in experience to the side who had 25-year-old Ty Chandler and 24-year-old Cam Akers for the role. They also have a couple of young RBs in their reserve squad as well, so Jones can play the role of a mentor.
