The Boston Red Sox celebrated their annual Patriots Day game at Fenway Park by inviting none other than Rob Gronkowski, to throw the ceremonial first pitch. Dressed in a Red Sox jersey emblazoned with “Gronk,” the former New England Patriots icon, lived up to his reputation for theatrics.

He took a brief windup and then slammed the baseball into the pitcher’s mound, triumphantly raising his fist. This move mirrored the famous spike Gronkowski which drew the attention of none other than the GOAT himself.

Gronkowski brought his signature move to the baseball diamond, emphatically spiking the baseball into the turf, much to the delight of the crowd. His move recreated the move that he would perform following a touchdown in the NFL, where he accumulated the third-highest number of receiving touchdowns for a tight end with 93.

This memorable moment is sure to go down in history, with Gronkowski proving he can spike just about anything, from footballs to baseballs! Tossing the first pitch may often be uneventful, but Gronkowski’s 53-foot spike made sure he went viral for all the right reasons—a classic Gronk move. 

Tom Brady approves of Gronk’s pitch

Tom Brady, who teamed up with Gronkowski during their time at the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to secure four Super Bowl victories, noticed the pitch. Together, the duo scored 105 touchdowns in both regular season and playoff games. Brady acknowledged Gronkowski’s signature spike on Instagram with a brief but pointed comment stating, “love seeing that Gronk Spike!!!” 

It is interesting to note that the legendary figure did not excel only in football but also in baseball. Brady was drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1995 before making his mark in the NFL. Despite a challenging high school baseball championship game where he went 0-for-3, Brady’s athletic abilities were evident early on. Celebrating his fourth Super Bowl win, he, like Gronk, took to the mound at Fenway Park in 2015 to throw the ceremonial first pitch to Dustin Pedroia, drawing cheers from the crowd with his commendable baseball skills. Two years later, after clinching his fifth Super Bowl title, Brady returned to Fenway, once again connecting with Pedroia in a display that underscored his enduring passion for sports, much to the delight of fans.
