In a recent discussion on the Let’s Go podcast, Tom Brady expressed his sorrow over the 49ers who delivered a great play despite losing to the Chiefs. In what could have been a better outcome for Kyle Shanahan and his team, the chance was ravaged when “elite linebacker” Dre Greenlaw suffered an injury. Brady recalled the scene, saying, “Heartbroken to see Dre Greenlaw go out yesterday.”

Greenlaw came in strong in the last Super Bowl game against the Chiefs, recording three tackles in the first quarter. In what his team suspected to be a torn left Achilles, the star LB fell without contact as he ran into the playing field with his teammates from the sideline in the second quarter. His face was writhed in devastation as he was carted out from the field. Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and Oren Burks took up the defense as Greenlaw sat out the remainder of the game.

While the game wasn’t a favorable event for the 49ers, it garnered record-breaking views of 123.4 million viewers across TV and streaming platforms. It is a remarkable cross over the last record at last year’s game between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles with 115.1 million views. The CBS broadcast in itself garnered about 120 million viewers, breaking its record.

This year, unique factors have come into play. Among 58 Super Bowls, Super Bowl LVIII was the second game to go to overtime. Travis Kelce’s emotions on the sidelines as he bumped Andy Reid in anger garnered another attention. Besides, his acclaimed popstar girlfriend Taylor Swift was there at the game which might have driven new viewers to the NFL. The record-breaking viewership of Super Bowl LVIII underscores the enduring popularity of the NFL and the growing reach of the Super Bowl as a global event.
