It was in 2021 that FX first received an order for American Sports Story. The series would feature sports legends’ past stories seen from the current world perspective. This Aaron Hernandez inspiration came from the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc., which revolves around the story of the 27-year-old who lived a complex life off-grid. American Sports Story will delve into his identity, personal life, career, conviction, death, and legacy.

Aaron Hernandez played with the Patriots from 2010 to 2012. One year after retiring from the NFL, he was arrested on June 26 and convicted of the murder of Odin Lloyd. It later came to light that Lloyd wasn’t the only murder case for Hernandez, who received charges for two previous murders. He was found dead on April 19, 2017, in his prison cell, reportedly of suicide.

Anticipation is running high for American Sports Story

The roles were cast earlier this year, but the production is currently on hold because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Josh Andres Rivera is a fitting actor to play Aaron Hernandez. He is famous for his role in the iconic West Side Story as Chino. The actor will also be making an appearance in the upcoming prequel of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

As for Patrick Schwarzenegger, he recently made an appearance on Prime Video’s The Boys Gen V. He’s also known for his role on The Terminal List, Midnight Sun, and The Long Road Home. The public is hoping for a phenomenal show, and we believe that the two actors will be able to live up to their hype.
