“Great morning here at University Hospital,” said Bernie Kosar. “15 hours out from a liver transplant, and to be sitting here, all things considered, albeit you can see all the wires and tubes and stuff in me. So you can see why texting and calling are hard, partially, and why I am doing these videos. But I’m really excited to be attacking the first day of the rest of my life with the great gifts that I was given yesterday.” Bernie Kosar’s strong message to his well-wishers confirmed that the surgery was successful.

The former QB has been suffering from liver problems for a long time. After getting diagnosed with liver cirrhosis a couple of years back, he had been facing all sorts of physical problems. Last week, the situation turned critical as an infection caused internal bleeding, and he immediately had to be admitted to the hospital.

Kosar’s emphasis on planning and preparation proved that he was ready to face anything. He went through seven surgeries within a month, and the transplant was the eighth one. Just like the true warrior he is, he showcased his grit and returned stronger. He was quite cooperative with the medical staff at the University Hospital.

Thanks to 21-year-old Bryce Dunlap, Kosar found a new life. Because of an anoxic brain injury, Bryce’s life was slowly fading away. Before his death, Bryce’s parents contacted the LifeBanc officials and donated his organs, which ultimately benefited Kosar. Now, the fans are expecting a speedy recovery for the Cleveland Browns legend.

Surgeries are nothing new for Bernie Kosar

Bernie Kosar’s latest liver transplant surgery was difficult. However, it is not something that the former NFL star is familiar with. During his 12-year career in the NFL, he has suffered from multiple injuries, including concussions, hamstring injuries, to knee injuries.

He suffered from a serious knee injury in November 1992 against the Los Angeles Raiders that took him out for 6 months. During The Bernie Kosar Show, the former QB revealed that he has over 80 broken bones, 100+ concussions, and has undergone almost 40 surgeries.

Kosar has always upheld his tough mentality and continues to do so. Even though his recent surgery seems to be successful, there still lies the problem of Parkinson’s disease. It sounds absurd, but the list of diseases for the former Super Bowl winner keeps continuing.
