“Congratulations, Travis Kelce, you are in good company. I can definitely say that. And it’s pretty exciting to see what’s taking place as a phenomenon the Chiefs are being right now. It’s gonna be awesome when he gets a chance to go across the threshold and get the 84th touchdown,” Holmes told TMZ Sports.
In the Week 8 win against the Commanders, Kelce’s 10-yard touchdown reception late in the third quarter gave him 83 career regular-season scores. He tied Priest Holmes’ franchise record after playing in 182 games. “I’m just the old, lucky dog still able to do this thing. Putting on the pads like I’m 15 years old again. I’m loving every single bit of it,” Kelce told ESPN.

With the remainder of the season ahead and retirement whispers circulating, the urgency is real. Holmes still owns the bragging rights for having reached the mark in fewer games. But with more games and Mahomes by his side, Kelce has the opportunity to claim the franchise’s career-TD crown.

Priest Holmes shares sweet takeaway on Travis Kelce’s rise
Priest Holmes achieved his franchise-record 83 total touchdowns for the Chiefs in just 65 games with the team.
“Records are meant to be broken. But the sweet part about my takeaway is, if I were telling my grandkids about this record that I held for 18-20 years. What would be the sweet spot about it? I got 83 touchdowns in 65 games,” Holmes said.

During his stint from 2001 until 2007 with the Chiefs, Holmes tallied 6,070 rushing yards, 76 rushing touchdowns. Leading to a team record of 83 total touchdowns. Holmes looks forward to telling his grandchildren that he held the record before Taylor Swift’s husband broke it. Adds a warm, personal touch to his sporting legacy and sets a benchmark for the franchise’s modern stars.
Kelce has played in 182 regular-season games and is recognized as one of the well-known players in the League. He already leads the franchise in most receiving yards with 12,625 and now ties for the most touchdowns in the franchise.
Travis Kelce just keeps rewriting the record books. He’s now surpassed PFHOF tight end Tony Gonzalez’s 131 consecutive games, hauling in a catch in 174 straight. The longest streak in Chiefs history. With 75 touchdowns, Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have become the tenth passer-receiver duo in team history, surpassing legends Otis Taylor and Len Dawson.
“He’s breaking all the records now. He’s all about the team. So, I wanted to make sure he gets that ball. And hopefully, we can get another ball for him later in the season when he breaks the record,” Mahomes told ESPN. The Mahomes–Kelce connection remains Kansas City’s biggest weapon, and every snap seems to add another line to Kelce’s Hall of Fame résumé.
