While the history books made room for Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback, last week, the man is once again making headlines, but this time the focus isn’t on his past achievements. Instead, a recent social media appearance has shifted the conversation back to the very mission that has defined his public life.

Kaepernick’s foundation, Know Your Rights, posted a small snippet of him at one of his youth empowerment camps on its Instagram handle. While attending the event, he was seen wearing a T-shirt that read, ‘I know my Rights,’ the signature line of his foundation. He was filmed as he walked up to the screen with a big smile on his face, doing the work he loves most.

Kaepernick founded this organization almost a decade ago. It was formed “to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, self-empowerment, mass-mobilization and the creation of new systems that elevate the next generation of change leaders.”

To date, the camp has been organized across fourteen major cities in the U.S., with its most recent major event in St. Louis, Missouri, in March. The 14th edition drew an incredible 400 youngsters to the historic Harris-Stowe State University.

It all dates back to 2016, when the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Kaepernick, protested against the racial injustice by not standing during the National Anthem. This moment turned out to be a stepping stone for his foundation. In fact, back in 2018, he even pledged to raise $1 million for grassroots organizations fighting against inequality.

Back in 2022, he even added one more initiative, Autopsy, which provided free, second autopsies for families where individuals had died at the hands of law enforcement in a process that, for many, is expensive.

Colin Kaepernick’s induction into the Hall of Fame

In October 2025, as part of homecoming festivities, Colin Kaepernick and the 2010 football team were added to the Wolf Pack Hall of Fame.

Back in 2010, they finished with a 13-1 record, having won the WAC championship. They defeated Boston College to win the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. It was Kaepernick’s year; he was their starting quarterback. The team had a final ranking of No. 11 in the AP Poll, the highest in the program’s FBS history.

Along with him, Virgil Green and Joel Bitonio, who were inducted into the Hall of Fame, also went on to have long professional careers in the NFL. Talking about the evergreen 2010 season, how can we forget the iconic 34-31 overtime win against Boise State? It is popularly known as the ‘Mackay Miracle.’

Kaepernick became the only Division I player to finish with more than 10,000 career passing yards and 4,000 rushing yards. He accounted for 141 touchdowns in his 51 games with the Pack.
