Meanwhile, police confirmed multiple vehicles were involved. Three were still at the scene, but one had already taken off. One person needed medical attention and was rushed to a hospital. Reports added that Griffin’s family had been on the way ahead of his scheduled TCU vs. Colorado broadcast when everything changed in seconds.

However, once the story surfaced online, support poured in. From the Commanders’ faithful to Baylor Nation, everyone echoed the same relief: gratitude that RG3 and his family made it through safely.

Fans pray for Robert Griffin III and family

Fatal crashes remain one of the leading causes of accidental deaths in the U.S., so the news of Robert Griffin III’s accident had fans rattled. Relief only came once word spread that RG3 and his family were safe. Messages quickly filled social media.

“Man, glory to God! May He continue to keep you and your family! Lord, hedge and protect the Griffins through this difficult situation! Amen! 🙏🏽,” one fan posted. Another added, “Looks like I35. That interstate is a horror show. Thank God for the tollway.. Glad you’re ok.” The concern was real, and so was the gratitude.

And the fan wasn’t wrong. It really was a “horror show.” Griffin’s Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van was one of four vehicles caught in a collision near Alta Mesa Boulevard just before noon, according to Fort Worth police. The wreck shut down lanes on I-35W and left drivers shaken. The Commanders’ legend had seen plenty of hard hits in football, but nothing compared to that highway scene.

Later, Grete Griffin provided an update that gave supporters peace of mind. She posted a photo showing two of their daughters sitting in the back of an ambulance. “Got everyone checked out in the ambulance, and kiddos are all well and healthy,” she wrote. “I hit my head, so will get a CT scan and Robert’s back is also getting checked out.” Fans could finally breathe, knowing the family was being cared for.

Between 1899 and 2022, over 3.9 million lives were lost in traffic crashes in the U.S. That history hung heavy in reactions.

“Thankful to the Lord that you and yours are safe,” one person shared. Another wrote, “Prayers that everyone is safe and recovering mentally. What a scary scene for kids to be a part of.”

Grete revealed that the family had been traveling from Houston to Fort Worth for work. “Well, we didn’t make it to Fort Worth,” she wrote. “Thankfully, our kids are safe and okay. That’s all that matters. Robert and I are a little banged up, but nothing a little love won’t fix!”

And fans from across the country, including one saying, “Prayers from Weatherford!” echoed the same. Good health to Griffin and family.
