Essentials Inside The Story

  • The Cowboys lose a superfan whose presence was felt as deeply as any player on the field
  • Her passion earned recognition from legends
  • This story reflects on how one fan can become a part of the Cowboys history

The Dallas Cowboys family is mourning a profound loss, not of a player or coach, but of a fan whose passion became part of the franchise’s very fabric. For over three decades, one voice rose above the roar at Cowboys games, a voice that even the players and owner knew by name. That voice belonged to Carolyn Price, and now, it has tragically fallen silent.

“Saddened by the passing of Ms. Price,” Smith wrote on Instagram. “A true @dallascowboys legend. A great—similar to the likes of Crazy Ray Rest in power.”

Smith wrote the message while sharing a heartfelt video honoring Carolyn Price, highlighting her journey to becoming the franchise’s No. 1 fan. Her popularity within the football community was so immense that a book titled Priceless Dream was written about her, co-authored by Carolyn and published in 2017.

The legendary Dallas Cowboys super fan had been attending countless games and cheering her lungs out for her favorite players. According to her family, Carolyn Price had been battling illness since the end of the football season, which kept her away from the final few games she never used to miss.

On Monday, Clarence Hill Jr. reported that Price passed away after a fight with cancer. Soon after, Ed Werder shared his own tribute, calling her “the most vocal and devoted Cowboys fan I’ve ever known.”

Price had lived and breathed the Dallas Cowboys since the 1960s, spending more than three decades at games and training camps. She was a familiar face behind the bench, near the tunnel, always cheering. Even when illness kept her away late in the season, her presence was still felt.

Beyond football, she was a healthcare professional and a proud great-great-grandmother. Through it all, she lived long enough to witness all five Cowboys Super Bowl victories, a journey few fans can ever claim. Given her dedication to the franchise, Ms. Price often secured front-row seats during Cowboys games. Besides the players, she would also greet Jerry Jones from the front row.

Aside from Emmitt Smith, the Cowboys also officially issued a statement after the fan’s demise.

The Dallas Cowboys send an emotional farewell message to Carolyn Price

“We will always hear her voice calling out our names and offering her support,” stated the Dallas Cowboys on their official social media account. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones.”

Carolyn Price was so great as a fan that back in 2016, WFAA put the spotlight on her, showing off her memorabilia and her deep love for the Dallas Cowboys. At the time, she was all in on a young team led by Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott. And yet, it reminded her of the greats.

“I flash back to Roger [Staubach] and Troy [Aikman] and see those days, see them coming in and off the field, and I see it again now,” she said of the 2016 Cowboys team.

Years later, she told NBC 5 News that outside of God and family, nothing mattered more than the Cowboys winning. That passion showed up everywhere. She didn’t work for the team, but as Clarence Hill Jr. said, she was part of the show, calling out names like Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Dak, and Dez Bryant at training camp.

To him, Smith and other Cowboys faithful, her voice was pure passion. And to fellow fans like Gregg Wilson, lovingly known as “Momma Price,” she was the heart of the Cowboys Nation. Win or lose, rain or shine, her love never changed. May her soul rest in peace.
