While the NFL is waiting for the playoffs to begin, former Cowboys legend Michael Irvin is enjoying college football. The former University of Miami graduate, who represented the Miami Hurricanes football team, had an illustrious college career. Under the HC Jimmy Johnson, he set records for career receptions (143), receiving yards (2,423), and touchdowns (26). To this day, that’s his favorite football team.

However, he surprised everyone by posting a screenshot of the Orange Bowl semifinal game between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team and the Penn State Nittany Lions football team. Alongside the photo, he delved into history and wrote, “I have such a disdain for both of these schools @PennStateFball and @NDFootball after each have COST @CanesFootball a National Championship. But I must admit, this is a GREAT GAME!!!!!” It indeed was.

Notre Dame entered the semifinal with a 13-1 record, but they were underdogs with a 2-3 record in the Orange Bowl. Their rivals, the Penn State, had a 11-1 record in the regular season, but a much bigger 13-2 record in the Orange Bowl. But guess what? Notre Dame defeated them 27-24! Just like Michael Irvin, many fans too, were excited.

The game was fought tooth to nail from the kickoff. After the scoreless 1st quarter, Penn State opened the scoring with a field goal. Mitch Jeter’s field goal in the closing second took the scores to 10-3 at halftime in favor of Penn. When 3rd quarter ended, they equalized the scores, 10 each. In the 4th quarter, both teams wanted a win. The kicker Mitch Jeter came to their rescue. With tied scores of 24 each, he scored a 41-yard field goal with 8 seconds remaining to make Notre Dame the winner.

It surely made Michael Irvin reminisce about his time in college football. Though the legendary wideout won 3 Super Bowls with the Cowboys, he couldn’t forget the losses against these teams. It’s remarkable.

Michael Irvin still remembers losses to Notre Dame and Penn State

As a young boy ready to leave his impression on the football world, Michael Irvin helped the Miami Hurricanes win many games between 1984 and 1987. But in his final year with them in 1987, they faced Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl and lost by 10-14. He came into the NFL but kept a close watch on his college team.

In 2010, the Miami Hurricanes were up against the Notre Dame in the Sun Bowl. But they lost it by 33-17. That’s why Michael Irvin still remembers both teams that stopped his team from winning a national championship. It’s hilarious though that he praised their game.

This year, his team hasn’t achieved much. They were 13th in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). They even lost the Pop-Tarts Bowl to the No. 18 Iowa State Cyclones by 41-42. It was disappointing. His NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys, was also eliminated from the postseason. Fans are waiting to see him during the playoffs.
